Macross Delta Unveiled

Macross‘s long overdue new season has at last been unveiled, tentatively being titled “Macross Delta” and sure to excite long-time fans of the mecha-idol franchise.
Macross’s tendency to provide a musically talented heroine with each new season has also seemed to stay in tact, as an event is currently underway in search of the “utahime” who will head the series – which was previously also won in a contest by Megumi Nakajima.
Further details on the event will arrive December – though more attentive fans have already noticed that the new series will apparently take place in 2067, 8 years after the events of Macross Frontier.

Probably not. This is the normal time span between series, but none of then has ever featured characters from the previous one. I liked the Basara name drop in Macross Frontier though.

have you watched the crossover with fire bomber and macross frontier? Its awful and a cheap production that consists of using old macross footage and having the frontier cast commentating over it.
But yes in a sense Frontier did show some of older cast.
Or if you count the episode where Ranka had a role in a movie which was an homage/spinoff to Macross Zero.

why can't they have a sequel to Macross Plus that doesn't include Macross 7? M+ had the best aerial combat scenes and far better quality CG.Not to mention the planes are based on the actual prototypes of modern fighter jets.

1) The director is busy.
2) Guld is dead.

That means that the annoying pieces of shit (won't call them "characters") that polluted that horrible anime might appear again in cameos. It's been a while since I lost my hype so soon after an announcement.
Anyway, I do hope that it's not a disgusting piece of garbage like Frontier in any case. Maybe the unexpected just happens and this actually turns good; but I doubt it. Fuck Frontier.

i feel your pain too.Robotech was my staple food when i was wee young and collect their comic books until i saw the first Robotech movie(not Shadow Chronicles) and Sentinels.HG glorified to his lowest.
What annoys me is that Harmony Gold don't care about Macross in the slightest, they're just holding the license to be dicks and to extort money out of anyone wanting to license a Macross show. If they didn't have the license we would have had Macross Frontier + Movies + other Macross stuff.

How to make an interesting Macross sequel in three easy steps:
1st. Scrap the J-Pop utahime idols nonsense.
2nd. Replace them with actual bands with mixed genders.
3rd. Let the bands sing Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, or any other worthwhile non-Pop music genre.

why make the series interesting to the west when Harmony Gold will just stop it again?
and Business-wise its better to have music that targets the wider demographic, so no heavy metal. And to be honest: Japanese rock/heavy metal is meh, especially with engrish and hiring actual bands sounds expensive since they will be the VAs too.
So in other words; screw that plan and bring on the Jpop idols!

i know that, but sheryl got replaced by an artist not a band. Generally a band consists of two people or more and considering that japan hasn't recovered economically its more expensive that way.
The Idol thing has been part of the Macross franchise since it first came out even. Getting rid of it wouldn't make it Macross anymore.
