The way Americans pronounce vowels sounds like a super long vowel to Japanese. haaatsuuuneeee miiiikuuuu. Proper Japanese short vowel pronounciation is only 30 ms in duration
As far as I understood, length of vowel changed meaning in many cases for words. Pronunciation of vowel is mainly just accent, right?
In terms of pronunciation he did fine, except a slight inflection on the wrong syllable like westerners are used to.
Tough to write out breath sounds though. Guess it would be Hah-tsu-neh me-ku-, although I don't know how to write out or describe a cut off effectively at the end of 'ku' so it doesn't get pronounced 'koo' although technically 'koo' is correct, even if meant to be shortened.
The last 'e' in Hatsune is short. You don't change your tongue position or mouth openness midway pronouncing the letter.

That sounds better, but still not good enough for a "debut" performance. It went from a garbage sounding non-language, to Engrish, which is better no doubt, but it'd still be difficult to understand for many Americans unaccustomed to Japanese language and accents.
