A lot of people were (rightfully) upset about the poor song choice. They could have done much better, and ideally should have used Supercells Love is War
Or alternatively a song where Miku doesn't sound extremely high pitched for no good reason. It would probably go better with a western audience who might be annoyed on first hearing.
But extremely high picked (so much that I want to smack something when I hear it) is moe.

It would make more sense to use one of the songs in the Magical Mirai setlist since that's what's happening right now. Literally ANY of them would've been a better choice. Freely Tomorrow, Earth Day, 39, Cat Food, Arifureta Sekai Seifuku, any of those would've been better.

And it's not a bad choice in the least. But She was only on Letterman because of the Expo's in New York and LA, and those expos were only there because of the latest lives in Japan, Magical Mirai. It just makes more sense to use the newer songs.
Yeah, song choice was very poor. I would have never chose that particular song. Miku has so many other great songs and somehow this crap got chosen. First time I heard that song one Youtube I was like "WTF." I was hoping it was not the song choice for The Letterman Show but they got me.

In particular, relatively little work's been done on American English phonemes. There are sounds and combinations of sounds absent in Japanese and most Latin-based languages.

Yamaha sound chip that was used in the very 1st Sound Blaster 8bit audio card. Same deal that made her voice in 2007. Was the guy who provided the custom artwork for Miku who should get credit for creating her.

That sounds better, but still not good enough for a "debut" performance. It went from a garbage sounding non-language, to Engrish, which is better no doubt, but it'd still be difficult to understand for many Americans unaccustomed to Japanese language and accents. (yes, Miku can do English, be she's still far from sounding like a native English speaker)

"Sharing the World" was the theme for Miku Expo. Since it was in English and Letterman has an English speaking audience as the majority. They did "Glass Wall" (also English) at the concert and that could be used too.
Very poor song choice. The high pitch sounded awful. Not a good debut for Hatsune Miku. They could have done better.
My thoughts exactly. That song just had her using one of her tinny voices making it seem like the programs need a lot of work still.
I think they were trying to make her sound as cute as possible but it's seemed to be outside of the range she does well in.
