As the 2014 summer anime line-up comes to an end, NicoNico approval ratings provide some insight into the best received titles this year, with some unexpected front-runners in evidence.
The ranking, based on positive evaluations from viewers – 82% of whom happened to be male:

Most of the voters were male. It seems like more women were watching Terror than men, presumably because male otaku need tits thrown at them to keep their attention for longer than five seconds.
It's 50s. Give use some credit.
1, 2, 5, 9, 10, 11, 20, 22, 23 didn't contain a single speck of "tits being thrown" as far as I can recall

It's still ranked 13th on this list, so it does seem like they still love it, just not as much as anyone would imagine it would be.
Perhaps they're just happy that it's at least better than .Hack//

Check the age distribution. 10-20 years old is only 13%. Maybe that's why Barakamon is first place an SAO is not even in the top 10.
rail wars should be a bit higher, but Persona 4 was crap, the animation was good, but if you hadn't played the game you'd be confused, and no new show should go on that assumption. I wished Sabagebu had more episodes.
20. Terror in Resonance...
It was kinda going downhill since Five showed up
These polls mean nothing. Rail Wars sold under 2000 copies first week in Japan. Which is horrendous.
I think the two biggest surprises of the season were Glasslip and Sabagebu, the former being one of the most hyped series of this season but probably the biggest disappointment this year, and the latter coming from out of nowhere to be one of the funniest series in recent memory.
Top 10 is as i would have ranked them myself, except i would have left out Tokyo Ghoul and replaced it with Majimoji Rurumo.

Not arguing about Barakamon, as that was definitely the series over the summer, maybe even of the year. Goes to show you can have a great show without being sexually provocative.

The nr 2 didn't steal its place either, IMO.
I agree. It's refreshing to see a series that didn't fall back on fan service and/or excessive violence as a replacement for a good story and character development.
At least SPACE DANDY is in the top 20, which is, to be hpnest, a ranking higher than I expected for a Japanese list. (If we're talking American/western viewers, SPACE DANDY would almost certainly rank in the top 3 summer 2014 anime.)

SAO2 not in top 10, what a surprise, eh?. So sad for Space Dandy, well at least Jojo and Akame ga Kill are in the top 10. Also, no Sailor Moon...

Only good animes I saw ont his list is Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders, Spac Dandy, Although they should of been much higher
Wow. 7 of the top 10 are complete crap. 2-7 need to be thrown out. replace with Psycho-Pass Extend, Prisma Illya, Terror, Captain Earth, and Blade dance.
Captain earth was universally panned and Blade Dance was a generic shitty harem LN adaptation with all the worst stereotypes that come along with it.
Someone with this much shit taste should have no right to comment on other's taste.
