I don't quite understand the hatewave this serie is getting. Yes it is a Shingeki no Kyojin wannabe, but how does that make it a bad manga? You people are bitching as if 80% of shounens out there aren't also One Piece or Dragon Ball wannabes.
It has more plot complexity, character depths, and researches(albeit half-assed at times) poured into it far more than most other action animes(lol SAO and Mahouka).
I don't mind people wanting to be haters, I am an avid SAO hater myself, but only because I can list detailed paragraphs of the reasons why I hate it. When you say "this thing sucks, I can't explain why but it just does", then that's a little juvenile.

-It's a Shingeki no Kyojin derivative, and I dont even like SnK to begin with so I like a derivative even less.
-It's sadistically violent in a way that surpasses SnK and just becomes goreporn
-The plot is absolutely ridiculous and takes itself way too seriously despite this
-the characters are incredibly flat
-its another of those series that think making everyone die makes it 'deep'
so yeah I have plenty of reasons to hate on it regardless of whether or not its popular.
-Hating on the fact that it's goreporn is kinda meaningless, considering half of the other crowd bitches about the censoring. I don't enjoy goreporn but I don't hate on it either, if the majority of modern animes rely on boobs and lollies to sell, I don't see why a goreporn would be a problem.
-How is the plot ridiculous? It's unrealistic, yes, but its a scifi and it operates quite well on scifi standards. The author at least tried to do some researches before writing this story, once again I admit it's rather half-assed at times, but he tried, which is much more than can be said for other animes. If you can enjoy stories that use magical logic, I don't see how Terra Formars is "ridiculous".
- Characters are flat, yes to a certain extent a good amount of them are, but once again, still deeper and more believable than SAO and I daresay, actual Shingeki no Kyojin(Mikasa and Levi has near zero depth and their expressions certainly prove that, yet they're still extremely popular).
- Yes, the way it handles death is kinda dumb because it underutilize the character's potential just for the sake of shock value, but once again, I don't see how it's different than other series such as all the Urobuchi stories.
Terra Formars is not a masterpiece, it's an okay anime/manga that deserves okay treatment, that's why I'm not getting why it's so hated here.
