It looks childish, immature, and unintelligent. I wouldn't have a problem if it wasn't in every single anime. Imagine of mohawks, mullets, or even bald girls were represented in every anime, that's how it is for me.

It's stereotypically childish. Maybe tomboyish, but still childish. And a woman trying to look/act childish comes off unintelligent to me. If nothing else, it's just my perception, although I'm sure I'm not alone in that perception.

That's why I said "representation", as in, you shallowly judge someone's competence based off of their hairstyle, not that you actually believe twintails makes someone dumber.

I just don't think that gives you any credibility. :P it's a hairstyle, not a dunce cap. The purpose of a hairstyle is purely to look nice, not make someone look dumb or smart.

You don't have to like the hairstyle, but saying it "looks unintelligent" is going to annoy people, that's all.

And I didn't realize my opinion and my own personal perception was such a big deal, I guess I should be careful not to express myself in the future unless I'm sure everyone else will agree with me (which means never). Whatever your appearance is makes a statement, whither you like it or not, and not everyone perceives you the same way. You don't go to a professional job interview in a tanktop or with a mohawk. Ever heard that in some cultures people consider more lines on the forehead to be a sign of wisdom? That twin tails are a hairstyle to look "pretty" is just your opinion and perception not mine. A person can use them in the intention of looking pretty and not get the reaction she intended, or someone who is intentionally trying to look childish or dumb might not get that reaction at all and just be called pretty. And it's also narrow minded to think people only choose their hair based on what they think looks pretty, people also chose their hairstyle to feel/look more confident or for convenience (how many athletes do you see with twintails?). I personally don't think they look attractive and it's a style that's frequently been used to make women seem younger, such as when actresses play teenage characters. And it is a fact that children are generally less intelligent than adults, isn't that true? I never said I judged anyone based on this. It could be someone I've known for years and if she one day decides to sport twin tails I'm gonna think she looks less sophisticated, less mature, less her age, and yes, less smart. HER LOOK, not her personality. If she's a smart person I'd feel it would clash with her personality. Everyone's perceptions are built up differently over their lifetime through their different experiences. Mine are clearly different from yours. Now if you still can't understand and give me a break then we'll just have to agree to disagree. I can't imagine myself being more clear.
