Mai-otome (action, fantasy,sci-fi),
Blue Drop (action,sci-fi)
All of Bee Train's girls with guns series (action)
Simoun (mecha,sci-fi,action)
Kannazuki no miko (mecha, sci-fi,action)
and many more...
and apart from these titles, there are a few yuri anime that are actually full on yuri like Sakura Kiss. Whereas there are a currently a few yaoi titles that market towards a larger audience like No.6 which was a sci-fi, action thriller, dystopian tale.
Of course it goes without saying that yaoi anime is getting traction since apart from Loveless, No.6, Dramatical murder and Love stage there isn't many series for yaoi apart from hentai so i'll give it that, but if creators don't start making yaoi anime with a more broader audience in mind like yuri anime creators do people will continue to bash yaoi anime.

And many others. And if you look at mangas where most of the yuris anime are adpated from, there's an infinity of yuri talking just about that (prism, girl friend, Sasameki, etc).
So yeah there's an actually public for Yuri like there is for yaoi. So that's not the problem...
