Pretty believeable list. A lot of good anime into that list, and a few bad ones...

But too many recent Animes, seems like many voters are only quite new to Animes.

lol, who the hell only got into anime until after watching Free?? Guess there's a lot of pervy girls out there who can be easily swayed to the otaku world if presented with some wet bishounens.

I loved Akira (the manga series mostly), but it never poked my interest in anime (at the time).

This isn't a best of all time list, I doubt most people got into anime through masterpieces.

I can certainly agree with this list since most of the ones on top made me look at anime in a more detailed view and made me differentiate anime from normal cartoons.

Though old school mecha still gave me that first taste. Voltes V, Daimos, Mazinger Z, Gundam series, Raijin Oh etc. Not to mention stuff like Dragon Ball, Sailor moon, YuYu Hakusho, Slam Dunk.

Those were the ones that started it for me.

Of course because there was no Anime before NGE and Sailormoon, Like, those are the only ones mentioned from that period.

    Akira
    GITS
    Saint Seiya
    Slayers
    Captain Tsubasa
    Mononoke Hime
    Nanoha
    Plastic Little

There are many more which names I currently don't remember, BUT FUCK YOU SANKAKU Who makes those lists ?
    Fire them NOW !

Unbelievable how many great anime is NOT BEING MENTIONED !

    Who pays for this ?
    Names !

Anime exposure worked completely differently in Japan compared to the west, I don't know how everyone is surprised by this list... and even in the west, there WAS anime here before Sailor Moon and DBZ (definitely before NGE). Even stuff as old as Astroboy and Gigantor (Testujin) was shown outside Japan and was very popular, it's just that most of the fans of anime (at least most kids that watched them) from the 60s to the 80s probably just saw them as any other cartoon next to Flinstones and Bugs Bunny and didn't realize/care that they were from Japan and were called "anime" there, so most fans of anime from those eras probably didn't use them as a gateway.

Hard to say. Star Ocean Ex, Kimagure Orange Road or Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin. Kimagure & Ginga were something I watched as a child and really liked them, but didn't realize there were anime until much later. Star Ocean Ex was the first anime series I knowingly watched and started to obtain specifically anime after it.

Yeah, it was Elfen Lied for me and it surely impressed a bunch of other people I know as well. Even if it wasn't the first show I saw. Although looking back at it now, it's mainly nostalgia that keeps it afloat. It's not objectively speaking so great.

This list isn't shit. It's obvious most of the voters are kids who have only been around to watch anything for a few measly years.

Elfen Lied almost made me want to quit watching anime, ugh what a pile of crap that was.

In its defence, i had to watch an english dubbing (and not an original subbed like i prefer)

Get it through your head, kids.

Sankaku gets their top lists from Japanese sites. Some very random. If it wasn't popular there, it's not going to be on the list. Looking at you, Cowboy Bebop.

Also, all these lists tend to be stuff that's been popular in the last decade, not taking older series into account.

    Personally mine is Ranma 1/2.

Hm, Doreamon is still on the list, and that one according to the internet started in 1979... although the last episode was in 2005.
So yeah, could be that shows that ended in 2004 or before aren't on that list.

That sure doesn't explain why Urusei Yatsura isn't on the list, unless the only people voting are all teenagers pretending to be distinguished by voting for some more classic anime because they saw a few episodes of it when they were kids.

Sankaku can literally make up every list entirely themselves, randomly, and still keep this site running the way it is. The lists would still be just as useless and pointless. I mean hardly anyone even notices where these list come from as it is, so what would the difference be? The sad truth...
