Clannad Gets Steam Release

An English-language Steam release has been announced for top romance visual novel Clannad, at last allowing Steam-bound barbarian gamers in on the heart-wrenching drama that is Clannad – and just in time for its 10th anniversary.
The news comes by way of Sekai Project’s panel at Japan Expo USA, though not much else has so far been revealed about the game’s precise content other than that it will be the fully-voiced version – and it even goes without a predicted release date for eager fans to anticipate.

kl, thought I'd rather have the Vita/PSP version.
I have trouble playing VNs on PC, I'd rather play them more conveniently on a handheld.
VNs are best played on a Surface Pro Tablet. The touch interface just work really well for VNs.
Though, I rather the game also be made compatible for the Android OS. So the game would be accessible on other tablets that aren't as pricey as the MS Surface Pro series.
This game is definitely a worthy purchase. I've played the game with the fan translations and completed the game twice. First time was sitting in front of the PC with a monitor... second time with the Surface Pro 2 and wow what a difference the gaming experience was compared to playing it on a desktop pc.
While KS played gatekeeper and babby's first for a lot of people, it was more of a passive extension that was picked up by the interested. Thus, the influx wasn't /quite/ at a "casual surface-dweller" level.
Throwing yourself into the Steam arena is a less humble entrance, so to speak. Yes, the shop and its consumers have already introduced VNs, but Clannad is a flagship title (among VNs anyway) and has a following.
It will cause waves, and like every time the general public meets power level, we're going to have low levels who have never heard of class weeaboo it up. Not that there's ever been much image to sustain, just rubble and ashes.
I'm conflicted about this, I mean Clannad is GREAT and all but...I'd rather have something I've not already read before, and ages ago at that.

The lack of Kotomi in those omake greatly concerns me. The best girl has always been lacking in exposure... hell, I didn't even know about her prior to watching the anime (her and Yukine, though at least the latter can be excused due to being gypped out of being one of the main girls).

If it means bringing VNs to the english mainstream market in order to have more VN translated in the future, I'm all for it.
Others say they are afraid it will get bad press on VNs again, why would it? This ain't rapelay. Rapelay was controversial for good reasons and you know it, this isn't.
Anyone who bash Clannad on that pretext should just get shot, it's nothing like Rapelay, which is an interactive game. This is a just a story book, with images, music, sound and voices. No interaction other than choosing your own adventure.
