In fairness, a lot of them like anime too. They're anime fans as much as anyone else.
Look at the doujins which are sold in Comiket. Most of them show anime, manga and game characters made to look much more sexy than original designs.
It is the whole idea with Comiket. If you want original creations, then get originals!

more like "mainstreamification", for example, last year comicket so many mikasa, eren, or other SNK character cosplay, 2 years ago there is so many kirito + asuna cosplay (SAO) even Shimakaze and Miku cosplay already exist but more and more people joint the same.
You think that Shimakaze's build would deter cosplayers. Seriously, it's not easy pulling off that look. The body build is very specific. Has to be petite but still have curves. And legs.
