Sony has provided a mid-season update of its statistics for the top 20 summer anime, sure to be an indicator for which series are the most enduringly popular – and astonishingly with Sword Art Online 2’s mighty reign finally being put to an end by the brutal manfulness of a certain bizarre adventure.
Sony’s data was gathered from the 30th of June to the 3rd of August via their various anime distribution platforms:

I have seen the phrase Gary Stu used to describe certain main characters. WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN?!
Supposed to mean: a male Mary Sue, meaning a self-indulgent author insert who is best at everything and much too special to be believable.
Actually means: a protagonist who isn't an incompetent moron or who as a teenage boy is interested in the opposite sex in a non-comedic way.
I don't know where you get this concept of "not incompetent = instant Gary Stu" from.
Kirito is a Gary Stu because of all the plot conveniences(finding Yui, surviving supposedly OHKO attacks all the time, etc) and bullshit logic(winning against Oberon who is a goddamn GM, "oh so noble" no slashing girl within a game) applying to him.
Tatsuya is a Gary Stu because any respectable description of a Mary Sue fits him perfectly(has genius intellect in revolutionary sciences at a surprising young age while "real" scientists always fail, instantly knows every tricks behind every techniques, basically has the right opinion on any disagreement ever, every characters are successful only because of his aid, etc).
Both has insane plot armor that prevents them from losing in a battle against anyone, all characters must love these two otherwise they are instantly portrayed as pathetic and/or evil.
Contrast that to other "competent" protagonist like Jotaro, who I have yet to see anyone call him a Gary Stu, and your argument is dead.

this lists are purely estadistical as in NO bs, no personal opinion, no artistic values, no bias, so this is what people IS watchin ON japan, ON the various sony managed media outlets, if this list was worldwide surely SAO2 will be number one, and SURELY youll see Naruto, Fairy Tail, and One Piece on the top ten, (hell judging from the various illegal anime streaming sites here in southamerica, Naruto would surely be number one followed by wichever is the bloodiest of the season)but thats just southamerica i cant be certain the rest of the world has such a shit taste as here, truly great series like barakamon, silver spoon, or mushishi get les than 5k views while naruto soar over 300k per week is really REALLY sad
