It also should be remembered that the lighting in a studio like that is pretty powerful, which is why makeup is used even with men when they show up. She'd look a bit better in normal lighting.

Japanese people are seriously in denial about how they look. I love looking at street snaps from Japanese fashion sites and most of the women look like this. A lot of them actually look much older than their age too, deep nasolabial folds and marionette lines are common for a lot of women.

Most 35 plus women look horrible with out makeup, it's called aging.
Women depend on there looks many times more then guys to attract the other sex.
It's called the WALL and every woman hit's it and then needs large amount of makeup to hide the aging process. Thats why women should get married before they are 30, after that they risk hitting the wall. Sure guys will have sex with them, but they will not marry them.
This why men are attracted to younger women or teenage girls, because if they are good looking they don't need makeup. It's a sign of health for having kids.
