Universally praised remake Sailor Moon Crystal has started to heat things up with its 3rd episode, at last introducing the blazing hot Sailor Mars to the delight of many dedicated fans as well as finally deviating from the original series – with no clear sign of these flames of passion dying down anytime soon.

Even after all this time I still love those legs of Mars
I think I prefer the mound of Venus.
The mountains of Jupiter for me.
Jupiter's quite talented, that's for sure.
oh please, everyone knows the flat ring of saturn is the best.
All I could thinks was... "good, another distraction from the snowflake(moon)"
Why can't TOEI animate hood anymore? There were so many QUALITY moments in this episdoe they could have made another entire episode from them.
>hood
GOOD
They're not trying to stretch things out over multiple episodes just to flush out things that are obvious or easily implied. The manga had the 1st 4 Sailors revealed in the 1st 5 chapters and the writers want to stay true to the source, which we all knew long before this started airing. If you want something more like the original anime, then watch the original anime. Stop complaining that they aren't doing things the exact way you want.
Financial troubles, which is why they're reviving their old franchises in the first place.
Its a refreshing episode. Feels good the way the Scouts are getting tied to gether again even if its a little fast. Besides ,, i ll take 3 life sized working fuk dolls of each female character..
Dem legs.
Please teach the animators Anatomy.
Maybe you should get the hell of their backs and draw something yourself.
I don't see you in the animator business, so shut your damn mouth, you speak only when spoken to.
lol umad
you are a bitch, stop the qq
That's some serious anal pain going on
it's BECAUSE they're in the industry that this is inexcusable. They've had the time and the budget to make this at least somewhat decent.
If you're going to be an animator, then you SHOULD know anatomy... these guys clearly don't, or are making up their own.
Okay, draw something.
Drawing and show you know anatomy.
I want to what you got.
how come i didn't hear some rants like this in Code Geass(no offense to CLAMP,I've been a fan since RG Veda)or Masami Obari? Me thinks you should blame those who did the main animated character designs, the little ones are just following orders.
@19:13, Thats because the legs (albeit longer than normal) still look human. Even the guys in this anime have near spaghetti legs syndrome.
Basically its like they took the hourglass figure and used that on all the body parts.
I'd take this over an american drawn cartoon anytime!!!
@ Anon 18:00
I'm an animator, and they are correct, this anatomy is off by a bit, but mainly exaggerated. Much of this is preference too for that reason. Many like the old style, but not having watched this yet I can't say overall how they look. But really I admit I prefer the older style as well.
Right now all you need to do is put big shoes on them and it's Kingdom Hearts Clamp Style.
Granted this is closer to the manga, but there was a reason the anime was better than the manga back then too.
Wasn't this all done by the author herself? Toei wanted a reboot and got it with the author's influence it would seem. I really would of preferred the old style instead with more budged and top quality animation. Oh yeah no CG!
Have you tried animating under time constraints and pressure of deadline? You don't know how difficult it is to be an animator especially with animes that are released every week (in this show's case, every 2 weeks. The pressure will always be with the animators when they are given a limited amount of time to do it.. People need to learn and understand that watching anime and making it are two different things.

"No anime uses over-the-top emoting anymore."
Oh god, seriously, what is the deal with that one? I mean, if it's based more on the original manga, cartoony expressions should still be commonplace (perhaps even more-so than the first anime, considering I never once recall the outer soldiers being portrayed as anything other than straight-up serious back then). I have noticed we seem to have been getting a lot less of such emoting over the years... I'm guessing as animation standards have gotten more fluid, they don't want sudden facefaults and such to contrast with the realistic movement... but it's really sad when even an adaptation of a work that was swarming with such things fails to utilize them.
The fallacy is strong with this retard.
god damn i prefer the old sailor moon series, not this spaghetti leg version.
These new designs don't animate well and the CGI looks bad.
No kidding. I mean, look how out of proportion those eyes are.
It's a cartoon... proportion don't have to be realistic. Jeezzz....
why does my penis
Why is there a penis on her forehead? Does that speak something about what's in between her legs too? And why did she do that awkward pose and showing off her armpits in the 1st gif? Is that an invitation for me to sniff and rub my tongue against them?
so, did Jadeite die or what? It looked like he teleported away rather than burn up like he did in the manga. Guess I won't know for sure until next week.
I'm waiting to see if Jedaite's skull would be shown next episode...
The arms and legs are so skinny and long in fact the arms look almost as long as the legs.. are they barbie dolls? They sure look like horrible renditions of barbie dolls.
The animators are idiots who evidently never looked at a girls figure.. it's so awful I can't bring myself to watch it even though story maybe good.
Don't blame the animators. They're just imitating the style of the manga. If anything, blame the mangaka (or the shoujo drawing syle as a whole).
The original series had a more meaty/voluptuous look to it that was more pleasing and animated better.
Yeah, but read the original manga, they've copied it really well. Bad anatomy and all.
since when anime become a 100% copypasting industry? surely they can at least fix things before going on air.
@Anon 09:37 07/08/2014
If the mangaka wants it to be, than so be it
To a serious artist, anime style already looks horrible, this one is just one step below the usual.
Also, the first gif copies the exaggerated frames from the basketball animation that Richard Williams included on his "Animator's Survival Kit". It is drawn that way on purpose, and while the "still frames" look horrible, the resulting animation looks supposedly okay; I never believed Williams on that statement, though.
It doesn't matter that is badly drawn as is a kid's show, and their eyes don't notice the animation flaws. It's only adult weebos watching kid shows that complain.
Are you listening to yourself? I personally dislike this show so I'm not going to watch it (I don't like how it was in the old version, I don't like the new one either, and don't care about this type of story), but it looks just like a modernized version of what the old one was. It certainly doesn't look worse than "old sailor moon".
Also, "serious artist" is someone who draws a lot, especially so if professionaly. Sure, you may think deludedly that realistic faces and fruits on tables and scenery with trees and hills is the only thing that's "serious", but then you'd be a deluded fuck, so please don't.
The False consensus effect is rampant among these rambunctious commenters.
You can call it direct and indirect pecuniary polarization.
I'm longing the day I can live with Mars on Mars.
What the hell is wrong with her legs in the header animated gif? They look like emaciated pterodactyl drumsticks.
This is some "Quality" animation.
So, I'll admit I haven't been following the new series & its been a while since I've read the manga, so please tell me what exactly was the deviation here. It'll help to refresh my memory of the manga.
The original manga went at a much faster pace than the anime. To be fair, in some ways that was good, in other ways it was bad. Less time spent getting to big events but less time spent getting to experience the world and growing to care about the characters in it. I prefer the slower paced original anime (and I also prefer the character design from it).
