WHY? Everyone and their grandfather hates SAO, but never actually explains why. How is it retarded or bad in any way?
Well, let's start with how Kirito is a blatant Marty Stue. Girls fall in love with him for no reason after maybe five seconds of interaction, he conveniently gets unique and/or overpowered skills (e.g. Dual Wielding in the first arc, conveniently keeping all his maxed-out stats in the second arc...), he always wins, everyone thinks he's awesome and if they don't they either will or are evil and gonna die anyway. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
The light novel is almost nothing but shitty writing. It had a good start, but quickly fell apart when most of the time was spent on showing how Kirito does cool stuff and how every girl in the vicinity wants to get in his pants. Speaking of those girls, they're only a bunch of moe archetypes to pander as many people as possible. Personality? Pfft, lol nope. Each one appears in one chapter, Kirito does stuff, she falls in love with him, he's already taken, broken hearts and drama... wait WHAT? How can they fall for a guy whom they've known for a few hours at best? Oh right, no personality. And on the subject of Suguha, it's clearly stated that they both were raised together since they were still infants. How the hell can she fall in love with him? Ever heard of the Westermarck effect, Reki?
Going on, Kawahara apparently wrote himself into a corner at the end of the Aincrad and Fairy Dance arc. I can't say any other reason for the Deus Ex Machina used in both endings. At least some foreshadowing? Naaaaaah.
I could go on, but this rant should be enough.
People need to stop writing "M. Stue" with the implication that it's a bad thing when it is clearly not.
If the main character is evenly matched with the antagonist of the month it's just another crappy Shounen. Where's the suspense if you already know the outcome anyway? Might as well stop pretending they're evenly matched, when the Main has no chance of dying halfway through the series (and staying the fuck dead. I'm looking at you, Eren Jäger.)

SAO is overrated. SAO is kirito. SAO is just this.
It isn't really bad, but it has a lot of serious flaws, so you can't really call it good, either. Most of Kirito's heroics would require him to be hacking the games and cheating like crazy, for instance. Soloing a level boss? Riiiight. Anyway, the biggest problem is all the idiots going around saying that if you don't love SAO a million times more than any other anime, you can't call yourself a real anime fan.
Right, so you're obviously a fake anime fan. Go stand in the corner and think about how can like SAO.
I don't really see a problem with Kirito's "heroics". I am permanently accused of hacking while I am just better and faster.
On kirito's "Heroics": If you've ever played a game with a high enough skill cap (TERA, Dark souls series) then even at a very low level you can take on things most people cannot if you are good enough. It just takes forever and you can't miss a single dodge.
its enjoyable but not the most interesting or best anime out there. i personally enjoy the character interactions than the action in both seasons.
I love people that claim to hate the show, but watch every episode as its released, then proceed to post online about it.
