for a minute, I was worried this list would have crap like Saito/Louise, but thankfully, it only featured one of the more decent Kugimiya typecast series. Still doesn't keep the listing from being a load of fail though, especially #14.
Pairings from harem anime just sound retarded to me.

Eh, depends on the harem. If the guy's firmly interested in a monogamous relationship with one girl (especially if the series ends with him choosing to be with just her), and his "harem" is a bunch of other girls with one-sided crushes (or not even that, but a large cast of girls that just happen to live in the same home or close vicinity as the guy), then a single pairing seems quite possible. I doubt many people would be willing to argue against the main pairing in, say, Ai Yori Aoshi or Vandread.
But yeah, full-on harems tend to screw it up somehow. If a guy has interests in banging all of them, he should just go for all of them, not "have feelings for this girl over all of the others for no particular reason" or some such half-assed shit (again, something I just hate about ZeroTsukai; all the worse since she's just an abusive bitch, and the "romance" comes right the fuck out of nowhere). Hell, I'd even prefer a chaste hero like Infinite Stratos over that, 'cause at least that causes less of a headache trying to rationalize.

That was a manipulation from Kaiki to piss off Aragami and it worked. Hitagi End confirmed this.

Kaiki to Senjougahara (Nisemonogatari Episode 07 Karen Bee, Part Seven) Just watch the resolution of that story arc. The woman Senjougahara was before would have fallen for anyone that showed her any kindness, being viewed as a prince (or knight in shining armor). Kaiki was the first of the four or five to help her with her weight issue without resolution. The only similarity between Araragi and Kaiki that Senjougahara admires is that of "coming to her rescue," the difference being Araragi is genuine and Kaiki is a fake.

They're both people that "saved" her. Kaiki purposefully conned her parents out of so much money that they ended up divorcing. Getting away from her mother's influence was the first step in Senjogahara's recovery.

On a list labelled "Top 20 anime couples", why not? What makes Touma and Misaka more valid, given that they're not even technically a couple? If popularity is the only reason then why even bother pretending this list has anything to do with couples?
It's a survey asking people about their personal preferences, not a study calculating how one couple is better or more valid than another.
Perhaps a better title would be "Top 20 Favorite Anime Couples"?
Judging from the picks, it's more a list of "the 20 anime couples from popular teenager's anime of the last few seasons, and a couple of popular older ones for credibility". I wouldn't be surprised if they even limited the choices the voters could use to the above list, knowing how these polls sometimes work.

pff, if crappy tsundere/idiot protagonist pairings are on the list I can expect anything. and the I believe that misaka and touma or the nisekoi characters never were on a formal relationship, so those pairings are as valid as saying naruto/hinata or ichigo/orihime
If you had read the paragraph, you saw that unrequited pairings also made the list. Whether they are valid or not is irrelevant, since they were voted for anyway.

God damn it kids, watch some anime before you pretend to know enough about them to make a list like this. Holo and Lawrence are easily better than any of these. As are Jinto and Lafiel. Hell, Issac and Miria are a better couple than most of these.

Why not? I don't know how I'd rank 'em, but the point is that there are so many actually good couples that it's a shame to see people wasting their votes just going for the trendy characters of the last few seasons (and Clannad because that one's always cool to vote for).
Yes, but until casting that kind of vote requires some voucher from a specific entity or you know what they do, it's a what-the-heck kind of affair probably.

Touma Kamijo x Misaka Makoto are not even a couple.
it says "As new anime arrive, so do new couples (confirmed or otherwise)" so they don't have to be dating. So their coupling is more of Misaka's and fans wishing than anything.
meh, as long as it's not Touma x Index, it's all cool. I know her name's in the (relic) title, but I really wish JCStaff wouldn't make it seem like that little biter's somehow still relevant.
After 32 volumes of light novels, I think people need to come to terms with this ship never setting sail. Heck, out of the entire series the closest Touma's ever come to being deeply emotionally involved is with Magic God Othinus, and she's only mainly featured in 3 volumes!
They never will, sadly. The best they can say to refute the reality is that it's "not true", as evidenced on this very page.
But ALL the ships aren't going to sail in Index. Some of them never even had the keel laid.
Still I like the Mikoto more than any other girl in the series except for Worst so I hope she gets Touma.
As for my favorite couple: Jinto and Lafiel win.
