Mahou shoujo legend Sailor Moon has been receiving massive recognition lately in no small part thanks to its remake, and fans have been correspondingly busy as well – and for once not just with perverted illustrations, as a video tribute recreating a previous Sailor Moon episode aptly titled “Moon Animate Make-Up”, to which over 250 dedicated artists contributed, amply demonstrates.

Now, now. This is about fans paying tribute to the old dubbed series that introduced many westerners to anime. Though wonky and horrible it was not without charm (hell, you should hear the Swedish one).
I grew up watching those dubs even before I knew what the Japanese language was, let alone subtitling. It's a rare case where I like both the dub and the Japanese for respective reasons. Chalk it up to blind nostalgia if you want. But I can totally understand people still being fans of the original DIC english dub of the original anime and tributing it. As far was the west is concerned, I'd consider it an important part of the history of anime in the west.
This dub is in many ways far better than modern dubs. I have tried double-checking if I'm blinded by nostalgia goggles multiple times, and I keep coming back to that the voice actress for Serena ACTUALLY HAS FUCKING INTONATION!!
There are very, VERY few voice actors these days doing anime that actually feel like they have any god damn emotion, most characters feel like radio announcers, which ironically was the whole issue with english dubs back then anyway.
I still like this dub a lot. It had issues, but lacking emotion or good delivery was not one of them.
After watch this, the 3D animation on crystal seems really good...
Really? Quite the opposite for me. As a bunch of amateurs made something that you would think Toei with their vast pockets should have made vastly superior.

Being a Sailor Moon fan over the years has been a lot like owning a gold mine that has been used as a latrine for 20 years. Sure, there's a lot of fantastic nuggets down there, but you're going to go through a lot of crap to find 'em.
Toei puts out crap animation for Sailor Moon. It's what they do. The released DVDs/BluRays will have problems. They may never put out the whole thing. They might change the story in insane ways. It will be over-merchandised.
But the basic story, and the wonderful characters, will still be there, waiting, if you can wade through all the other crap. Most people won't, and I can't blame 'em. I will. Hell, I'm used to it by now.

Looks like some people did it to be funny and others took it seriously, while others thought that being terrible at drawing counts as "style" which means people can't criticize them for adding so much ugly shit to an otherwise interesting project.
Wow.. some of those Animations are really bad looking.. and that English Dub.. AWFUL.. and why the hell did they rename everyone..
And some of those Animators didnt even take it seriously. *Laughs*
Well to be somewhat fair it was more for fun an professional. So going crazy and doing whatever is pretty much a given.
rather awful, it's sad that the ones with a nice style can't really animate, and the ones who can animate have some awful drawings, and well most are bad in both ends.
Also it annoyed me all those fat versions, what is up with that? if the whole thing was done that way, it would be a parody, I guess, but not being that what was the purpose of that?

generally I think deviant art pictures are ugly as shit. But put in the medium of a parody like this it actually became quite enjoyable to watch.
