Much praised remake Sailor Moon Crystal has continued its scheduled run, with its 2nd broadcast faithful to the original to a fault, and gracefully depicting the inception of Sailor Mercury – though in the process offering little for those desiring a different interpretation of the legendary series.

I really wish they hadn't gone with those 3D transformation sequences... they look soo bad.
I wouldn't mind if they just redrew over it. What's ironic is the fact that transformation sequences are reused for every episode and rarely need to be updated, you just need to do this type of animation at least once for each character.
To me, Mercury's is cuter than Sailor Moon's. I have high hopes that the remaining transformation sequences are on the level of Mercury's.
Also, grateful for the lack of the disguise pen transformation. One less one to fret over, either way.
Agree, Mercury's definitely looks better than Sailor Moon's, but still don't think it looks as good as 2D. And to be clear I don't think it has anything fundamental to do with 3D, I just think this is a poor implementation (looks like cheap production values and bad animation).
I wish NONE of the original cast came back. Usagi sounds terrible, listening to her in every episode almost physically hurts. Mistuishi Kotono is too old to play her.
Yep, basically poor choice of textures and badly done model movement. The only real thing to complain about, with the lack of most of the original cast...
Seriously...I don't understand why is Toei Animation is not spending more budget and effort on the transformation sequence (especially when they will be reused many times). I mean have you guys seen the 3D/2D they did for Happiness Charge Pretty Cure?

Old Usagi, Irritating and funny.
New Usagi, Irritating and not funny.
No matter how much they try to milk it, it's definitely not a keeper....
This is closer to the manga, so technically THIS is the old Usagi.
>Irritating
Nope. Try again somewhere else, greeny.
Someone, somewhere, in another Negaverse might actually be able to comprehend what you are trying to say... But then again, would they even care?
The irony is, it's the same voice actor whereas they have new voice actors for the other girls..
Wished they didn't stick with the old voice actor.
I keep hearing Hummy from Suite Precure its driving me nuts...
Meh, this series is still in the beginning phase so i'll wait til the production team are able to get the 3D CG transformations right. (still hate how it looks)
the only other gripe i have with this is that for the most part, the characters facial expressions are very..muted.
The smiles are good, the cute little winks and grins are good.
The panic expression? I don't think there is one. and the afraid expression is basically just a slightly wider mouth.
Its not a terrible watch, but i definitely don't actually care about the next episode. i guess i'll just watch this when i feel like it.
Its just kind of got a "whatever" feel to it.
And it still looks as if it's from the early 90's = badly drawn.
actually I thought that's sorta the point of this? to bring it closer to the original manga, which was drawn in the 90s...
That's because they don't have much of a panic expression in the manga either.
Ami/Mercury looks really cute here. I like her design more than Usagi's.
The animation/art seemed of a higher quality than the first episode's transformation did, although I say that without re-watching the first.

As an aside, I prefer Mercury's seiyuu as well. While it may be momentarily interesting that Usagi sounds pretty much exactly like she did twenty years ago, I'm not sure why that's a good thing.

I'm in the camp that finds it slavish to the original and while I get the economic value of a new production, I'm missing the artistic point.
I wonder if the producers (TOEI, I’m assuming) got roped into re-using her via the guilt trip method. No idea when or how the decision was made however, I’m not a fan of it.
I agree. The animation/art seemed of a higher quality than the first episode's transformation did.

Needs more Sailor Jupiter.
I hate Toei Animation for their poor quality control of their work. There are couple of scenes so poorly drawn like character face and eyes are out of portportion. The original series also plaque with this issue.
Yeah, Toei Animation has always been lacking.
I'm one of those who tried to defend this when the 1st episode was aired, but I agree with you on this one. Too much legendary quality moments.
Sankaku can make a "Sailor Moon Crystal: Legendary Quality Anime" entry lol...
This remake could've been perfect if Toei didn't bring back that piece of shit tuxedo asshat.
You ave to be the sadist man have ever seen. How green are you?
"This anime would be so much better without that male character".
I dunno, I think Tuxedo Asshat sounds like an awesome character.
Jealousy is bad for your health, bro.
You do know he is a major part of Salor Moon... right?
The old trasformation version looks so sexier than the new one .... I wish Urawakun 'll tear Ami's sailor suit again ...It's impossible to happen again right.
People who read the manga are generally happy with it. I mean, a lot of them still complain about the CGI, but in the end they're mostly willing to overlook it, because hey, this is closer to what the original anime should have been.
Newcomers and people who only saw the anime tend to be much harsher with it, since it feels like an out-of-place throwback that doesn't even match their expectations of the material.
Every people here just complains and complains, les make a solution, why dont you clean up the 90's anime and make your own Sailor Moon KAI version so everyone can be Happy in this pretty fucking world.
Not much complaining from me except the animation quality. If its aired every 2 weeks, anyone would expect top quality.
BTW, i saw Toei Phils in the ending credits. Made in the Philippines? From my country? Oh God I hope the funds for this anime aren't getting laundered by those sleazy government officials!
LOL so many Nostalgiafags here if you dont like it and like the old better then dont watch it
YEAH!
I only liked sailoormoon since it was the first anime i saw now i can't stand watching that shit, yes i mean the old series now watching this one.
not watching this one i meant
- Using a 47 yrs old seiyuu for the main 14 yrs old character
- Crappy CGI animation
- Episodes every two weeks
- Don't using Moonlight Densetsu as Opening
- Don't use chibis or exagerated expresions
- Banning men to see the premiere
Yeah, this new adaptation SUCKS!
They didn't ban any men, you can hear plenty at the leak of the recorded event screening but they had to go there together with a woman.
Translation: "It's not the 90s anymore! FUCK!"
You really didn't see the manga right?, the 90's anime was a whole new departent, that is why is so diferent, go and make your oun Sailor Moon KAI!.
Old people voicing teens is common in dubs too.
at least it looks vaguely similar to the original, unlike many other anime reboots nowadays.
This.
The remake could be much better but compared to other remakes its a really decent adaptation. Besides it's closely adapted from the manga so it's hard to complain that it doesn't follow the anime from the 90s.
fun is, this design is closer to the original (manga) than the first anime
If only they made DBZ Kai with these graphics....
NO - leave DBZ alone. It's fine the way it is now (DBZ Kai)
tuxedo goku ftw
Sailor Namek
Dragon Moon X! Sailor and the 7 Dragon Ballz!
stroking seven pair of balls to summon the metal shenlong
Shoujo graphics yeah lol.
