The Doutei leader posted recently basically saying he can't get his hands on the 2nd and 3rd BD Volumes as no one has released the BD Raws(Some groups like the proper files, they're bloody huges, like 10s of gigs). Doutei are like the only decent group doing it.
Well, someone obviously posted screencaps from RAWS to make this article. So they have to be out there SOMEWHERE!
Like it isn't possible to buy the originals if he likes the anime (and rips it, any ways).
They're only like $80 a volume. Most groups for the most part wait for the volumes to be uploaded, as no one wants to spend that much.
Well it's a question if he'd like to collect the originals for himself or not, I expect most fansub groups get donations too, so this wouldn't be impossible, and at least the studio would get some minimal amount of support too.
For the most part, at least 95 percent of DVD/BD sales in the country for anime come from the Japanese themselves. You get people that upload dozens of BDs to the net, some end up arrested though lol. Every now and then you see a story on animenewsnetwork telling of how a random salary man has been arrested for uploading 100s of anime Blu Rays.
