Papico Cuter Than Ever “But Too Embarrassing To Buy”

Frozen snack Papico’s decision to outsource the design of their new “Papiko” mascot and her resultant packaging to the denizens of Pixiv seems to have paid off, with some very cool designs now in shops.
Papico – Glico’s classic Japanese “ice cream” brand served in distinctive trademark tubes – turned the design of their packaging over to the denizens of Pixiv and the online voting masses, resulting in several particularly adorable contributions which were dutifully placed on the packaging and now grace freezers throughout the land:

Aside from the usual complaints from the weak that the new packaging is to embarrassing to be seen buying, most seem delightedly bemused by the new designs – the latest in a growing trend it would seem:

Apparently someone either hasn't been living in Japan for very long. Everything has a mascot and I find more people will buy a product if they actually have a cutesy mascot on it rather than not.

I'd see nothing wrong with buying these in Japan, just remove the packaging if you're embarrassed while outside, I don't see how you could be embarrassed to begin with, the Japanese love this cute shit, you'll be one of the crowd.

I immediately saw the Glico logo on the packaging which is the same company that makes Pocky. Any idea if Papico is imported to some extent?
