would have thought Clannad top the charts
It should have beat AnoHana
I cried like a little bitch during some of the Ushio scenes.
I know right, I tried to keep myself from tearing up but in the end it was just manly tears of manliness...
No stopping the freight train that was Ushio.
Same.. you really start to share emotions with Tomoya
According to the site, if they counted male votes only Clannad beat Ano Hana, however the females who voted really liked Ano Hana, making the total results Ano Hana winning.
No wonder,
girls are all for sappy soap operas like AnoHana
Never watched Clannad, i'm rather un shakable, but I have to admit, dango daikazoku always smelled like freshly cut onions to me.
well, if nothing else, the final seven episodes of Clannad: After Story will shake you. Not just because of the circumstance. But because KEY and KyoAni spent 39 episodes leading up to the final seven, making these characters into ones you are emotionally invested in.
In story time it spans roughly 8 years and by the time Nagisa dies in childbirth and Tomoya abandons his newborn daughter and turns to alcohol like his own father did to him, you are unable to NOT feel the feels.
It is also helped along by a lot of genuine humor in the writing and both main and supporting characters.
Clannad gets a lot of hype, but overall it is deserved.
I was not enamored with AnoHana. And quite honestly AnoHana didn't make me cry. Clannad made me cry buckets.
@stealthMomo
shut-up
K-on!? smh
that scene where they were about to graduate without asuna was pretty good.
Asuna who??? That's Azusa!
gotta be kiddin' right?
did you mistake this with negima or something?
Asuna's from Negima! and SAO...
SAO asuna got nothing to do with this you SAO tard.
Negima's asuna on the other hand, well, you know what happened. All of her friends graduated but...
I obviously would shed tears from laughing as well if Asuna from whatever anime showed up in K-On
K-on? What?
yea, i know right...you can tell this list is pure shit simply because it doesnt even have kemono no souja erin in it, as childish as that story may seem its really quite moving....
the ones up here might make you cry at how terrible they are or how plainly emotionless they are.
Clannad, AIR and Madoka Magica are EMOTIONLESS? We must have a completely different definitions what emotions are.
Of course Kemono no Souja Erin should be on the list. There are many anime that should be there above the 10 listed here. But NONE of the shows listed here are TERRIBLE.
To be fair, I have never seen Space Battleship Yamato, so I can't judge it. But the other nine have their merits and I enjoyed them all. That being said, I never really got into AnoHana. But that was mostly because I didn't like the character designs and it moved to slowly for my taste.
But you really need to explain to me how Clannad is emotionless.
As for terrible, the only truly terrible anime I have ever seen was any anime that has been dubbed and put on Funimation Channel, Tonami, Adult Swim or whateverthefuck other station that has jumped on the bandwagon.
And even most of them didn't start out terrible. They were made terrible by the lovely US licensing companies. Honestly, every single thing Funimation gets their hands on they turn into complete garbage. Which Americas youth eat up with a spoon.
The few I have forced myself to sample, almost without exception, don't even resemble the Japanese version.
To prove my point - in 2009 I was streaming season one of Strike Witches and season one of K-ON on my website. I received a cease and desist order from Funimation about Strike Witches through Comcast.
It went to arbitration with a Pennsylvania Administrative Justice. I won! Why? NOT ONLY was I able to prove it wasn't Funimation's version (the ChibaTV network tics were clearly visible in the upper right corner) I was able to show that in the content of the given episode (episode 5) was more than 30% different from the original in dialogue, edited out parts and incidental music.
Yeah, I mean you anonymous. Your comment is easily the the most worthless in this thread FILLED with worthless comments. If you consider the shows above to be terrible and/or emotionless, why do you even bother watching anime? Seriously. I mean, if you consider them all to be terrible, then it means you are lacking in something - not the creators or studios.
when i said emotionless, ill admit it might have been a bad choice of words ,as expected tho your overreacting to my opinions tho. clannad is one that i wont deny being on that list but K-ON, and a few others really shouldnt be. Ao-Hana does have its fair share of "emotion" but it all felled a bit forced to me and therefore i didnt feel much watching it at all, toradora meets the same standards as alot of the typical jp romances and again wasnt exactily registering on the emotional scale. madoka i just didnt even enjoy, again this is my opinion and its due to my tastes, but i found it rather boring. there are a few on that list i havnt watched due to the reason being that they dont fit in my scope of interest but my comments are based on the ones i know and have watched...or at least tried to.
oh and to add to the last reply, im not american so your rant about funimation etc is pointless...your rant about being right with "proof" is pointless, your belittling my opinion of shit that you might have jerked yourself off to, again, pointless, if you dissagree with somones opinion thats all well and good but going out of your pointless way to tell them their post is pointless goes to show your nothing more than a buthurt brat but thanks for giving me something to waste my time to reply to now ill go back to enjoying something else
>calls someone else's action pointless
>does the same thing, only in an even more retarded way
>calls himself on it
>still hits the button to publicly post this retarded shit-covered comment
Just because you identify yourself as a stupid person doing stupid things for all of us to see, doesn't excuse you for being stupid.
Good try though. Try some capitalization or hitting the return key every here and there.
Rekt
Obviously people who didn't witness the grand finale of season two don't know what this is about.
I can assure you that pretty much every k-on fan was bawling his eyes out at the end.
I enjoyed k-on but it never evoked any form of feels.
EF on the other hand....
Really shocked EF wasnt on here... and yeah.. K-on.. lmao...
Wasnt it just ow were graduating and azunyan isnt yet and life goes on. boo fucking hoo.
I enjoyed k-on as well, more so season one and the movie, but I dont remember it making me feel overly sad.
You are correct, good sir.
You've got that right. Singing to Azusa was truly a tear-jerking moment. But to be fair, it was really the only scene of that type throughout the series.
Not trying to downplay the emotionalism. But all of the other shows listed had multiple tear-jerking scenes throughout. K-ON was a 99.9% feel-good, slice-of-life comedy. I loved it, but it should not be on this particular list.
Also, how Clannad was not #1 is beyond me.
If someone tied me on a chair and forced me to watch a full run of K-On, I'll tear up for sure. Yep, K-On at 4 makes sense.
K-on was one of the most tedious anime to watch, I couldn't bear it yet after blazing through season 1, season 2 had to be watch. I am a masochist.
I've watched K-On four times. I love it more each time.
And each time, the manly tears come when Azunyan realizes, really realizes, that the others are going to graduate and leave her all alone.
But it's okay if you, and many others, don't feel that way. Not everyone has a soul, after all.
my soul is the silver one. not a pink one like you.
I have to agree that K-ON! does not belong on this list for the simple reason that K-ON was a slice-of-life comedy and does not fit the criteria of this list.
That being said, your view of K-ON! as being tedious has nothing to do with what we are discussing here.
I mean, I can see if it is not your type of show you wouldn't want to watch it. But out of any criticism you could level, you go with 'tedious'? All that does is tell me that you judge shows based on you own personal taste and ignore any of the merits the show may have. really? You found the ENTIRE series tedious. Out of 38 episodes, not one came up to you erudite standards? Amazing.
Stuff I consider 'tedious' I simply don't watch. But I know it's the thing to trash on 'Type B' 'Moeblob' shows lately. Good for you. Now you're one of the cool kids.
I'm not saying that K-ON was the pinnacle of this type of show, but, Christ on a bike what were you expecting out of it? It was an enjoyable show that was often genuinely funny, well written and well animated. What could be tedious about.... wait a minute. You watched the DUB version didn't you?
You know what makes ME cry?
DUBS!
lOCALIZATION!
IDIOTIC TRANSLATION POLICIES!
BADLY DIRECTED VOICE ACTORS!
(Most of them are talented people. You hear them in our cartoons and such and they do a good job. Why are they not allowed to perform the same for anime? 95% of dubs are simply HORRIBLE. Even if the voice actors are talented the voice directors seem universal in their ability to ensure that the end product sucks hardcore.
DROPPING HONORIFICS!
(because they assume you are all to stupid to understand the plot and characterization nuances they provide. And many of you probably are.)
TRANSLATING HONORIFICS
(you don't translate honorifics fucking morons. they don'r translate to anything in our language, except in the roughest sense. They simple mean what they mean. Uiharu-senpai DOES NOT mean Miss Uiharu.)
THE WORST FANSUB GROUP YOU CAN NAME TRANSLATES BETTER THAN FUCKUMATION OR CRUSTYROLL!
I did cry a few tears here and there with K-On! (though I wish that during the much-hyped festival ep in S2, they would've quit talking and played some frickin' music already!), but I also wouldn't count it among the top tearjerkers of all time.
@StealthMomo - your post was coherent and reasonable until you went off-the-rails with the ALLCAPS ranting about dubs, which only proves that you haven't seen the K-On dub, or probably any quantity large enough to judge "95%" of them. At least for the second season, the K-On dub *does* include honorifics, and suffers greatly for it. But in your eyes, dubs are screwed no matter what they do, whether they drop honorifics, translate them, or keep them in at the expense of awkward phrasings and mispronunciations -- that's what you get when you try to constantly shoehorn words that aren't ENGLISH into an ENGLISH dub made for entertainment purposes.
And since when has CR been involved with creating dubs?
Senpai to Miss isn't actually that bad of a translation. Necessary? Probably not. But it's reasonable. It sounds awkward in English because no one talks like that in English. Normal behaviour in Japan is simply more formal that it is in western culture.
I love K-On and I will defend it with my life. Yes it is very emotionally attachable (for those of us who actually have a heart) and yes, it has a bittersweet ending. But no, i wouldn't really call it a tear-jerker and it really doesn't belong on the list.
What upsets me more is that AnoHana outranks Clannad, especially if the Clannad in question is ~After Story~
Even slightly thinking about the flower field scene with Ushio's famous "daddy's arms" line tears me up immediately. It's hardcore. AnoHana doesn't have the same impact.

me too
I think Lucky Star made me tear up more than K-on did.
tears of laughter yeah..Timotei~
wouldnt have guessed any of these on such a list, first list I really have to agree its really bad.
You wouldnt have guessed clannad and anohana??
I mean there are some other sad animes but these are kind of upheld everywhere as being extremely tear jerking. You likely havent seen either I take it?
Kanata, right?
I shed a tear from yawning so this list is legit.
I think this is from people actually "feeling sad" at the end of season 2, and the K-On movie...It's still dumb though for K-on to be on the list.
I guess that invalidates this list. Well, it did make me teaqr up a few times. Out of sleepiness. I tend to tear up when I yawn for some reason.
Anyway, AnoHana, meh, sure. Although I think Clannad is the most emotional in this list.
same reaction as mi, why K-on! ??
K-on??
seriously?
Lack of empathy on my side makes these so called "tear inducing" anime simply generic on my side. They don't account for us people with broken brain wiring.
K-On! is tear-inducing anime? ( Well, it could be melancholic at some point, but...) At least "Flanders no Inu" is on the list.
