Glasslip PV Reflects Reality

Devoted otaku have yet again set out on another anime-centric pilgimage to the latest seichi of note, this time to bear witness to and compare the similarities between the new PV of impending glass artisan anime Glasslip and its real world equivalent – with the town likely to end up as a prosperous (or merely crowded) tourist attraction.

While the comparison shots below quite resemble the PV, they also conveniently serve as a respectable collage of the town’s rather quaint scenery:
All this of course may have a point beyond merely saving a pittance on animators: the propensity of anime to spawn “seichi” in otherwise unremarkable backwaters which are then easily turned into lucrative tourist traps is now well understand even by local governments, with some doling out incentives in the hopes of attracting the next blockbuster – or at the very least a small horde of loose-walleted fans.

Soooo, what is real life town/prefecture name?
Why do they bother with this kind of stuff.
Recreating a place using imagination takes alot of effort while going to the place itself to do some snapshots is much more easier to recreate the place in anime. Besides, all the information are already shown in the pictures so all the background or environmental artist can juz easily work from there.

Yes I love seeing these sources, and this is using reference, not tracing too. Matching the elements of the real scenes is not a skill-less thing to do, and it's done everywhere. I don't know the series, but if they are meant to be in that location, then it makes all the more sense. Even if they're not, there's still nothing to stop them from using these and making things that much more believable. Look what the color coordination does to the scenes and the vibrancy in which they enhance the reality without necessarily altering it. That takes more skill and consideration than anyone gives credit.
not to mention people some times want to go to the places that they read/watched. Long time ago I read Watership Down, the hill the rabbits lived under is kinda actually real, and I went there. Just felt cool to be in the area that was inspiration to the author.
People probably get the same feeling from the show. On a more creepy note, there are probably some people that want to go to the place were there favorite characters 'live' to feel like they are part of the show.

P.A Works have been using real life locations. I'm not sure about True Tears, but they have in HanaIro, Tari Tari, and Nagi no Asukara. Not that surprising, really.

What if I wish to be Akuto Sai, Akatsuki Ousawa, or Satomi Rentaro? These guys are perfectly fine with female bodily contact. Though you're right in that manly heroes who are comfortable with women are rare, it's not like they don't exist.
He said anime, not anime male MC's.When they draw places or people, it looks as if they're perfect-like, or extremely good looking without any stuff like pimples or whatever (In many animes at least). Compare that to real life.

Whenever they compare anime scenes to real life it always kind of saddens me how unrealistic it is. They draw it all glistening and clean and perfect - you compare the real thing and it's completely different.
The anime version is more colorful and uses brighter colors. The real versions seem to be various shades of grey, light blue, and brown. The anime version also seems to portray a more dignified decay. To borrow some terms from real estate, the locations in the anime version have "charm" and "character" whereas the real pics are more like "handyman special" or "needs a little TLC" or "As is, where is. All offers must include Schedule A."
I think it have more to do with bad photography. Notice how the anime scenes all have that perfect light angle (like sunset) while most photos were taken in a cloudy day with a shitty camera.
And also, the conditions of the places IRL probably aren't the Best. but, at least it looks great on the anime drawing, which is the one I'll be seeing (Along with many others) this summer :)
Well, the real locations probably aren't kept clean/in perfect-like condition on a regular basis so it looks kinda bad. When the person is drawing a scene from real life and has the option to make it better and more fresh looking, Why not?
One of my favorite anime forum topics is "what is your favourite anime setting" and this reminds of my answer which is, present day Japan.
This show looks good interested to check it out. PA has gotten better and better over the years

I think its kinda neat, makes the story a lil closer to believability. However, I think I'd feel kinda conflicted if my home were shown in an anime like that without my consent. Especially if it then drew a ton of strangers to it.

Really? I don't think this is "Lazy". If anything, Making up a non existent place would be "Lazy" since all he has to do is think of a place. But for this, he'd/she'd actually have to see pictures or be at the town himself/herself, then see where the buildings are located and everything to make it looks similar in his drawings. Also, it attracts tourists to the place. He'd/She'd be helping out the town.
More awesomer still would be to have a Google Maps Camera Car photograph the entire town and then at the studio just apply an Instagram special effect to get the animation perfect, while at the same time having artists do touchups on certain scenes. So when the anime is done you can upload the Camera Car information to a website or create an app for fans that they can compare to the real life version when they visit.
nah,it can't.Look some Makoto Shinkai works or Miyazaki's Totoro or Kiki's Delivery Service.They're actually taken from real places especially Kiki's where some locations are near from Mediterranean Sea.The American cartoons who are lazy,you can't tell the backgrounds if they're walking from downtown or in the desert.
The anime versions of the "real world" locations are amazingly beautiful and so much more full of life. Makes the "real world" look like shit in comparison.

I think it's because of the vivid colors in anime compared to the bland scenery dulled by smog irl.
Just take the first pic. Vivid greens golden sun reflecting from windows, beautiful clear blue river. In contrast everything looks gray in the real life photo.
Another thing is added/changed stuff to improve atmospheric feeling of the scenery. Take 41 vs 42 for example. The greenery is overhanging the subjects and also growing down the wall which just adds a lot to the feeling of that scene.
and what about the telephone poles that are straight in the anime version?
I don't think the telephone poles are viewed as something bad.
I like them a lot, they make the cities look more interesting.

Most of background scenery in either anime or VN are actually photoshopped from the non-fiction places.

I don't think it is really traced, there are differences but it is obviously that it was drawn with a photo of the location as reference.
Anyway if any jobs would be lost would be from Korean animators, since no one cares about them...
