Hugely popular kiddy anime Doraemon will finally receive its US TV debut this summer, by way of no less than Disney themselves – an announcement that has left many to wonder as to what took so long, considering the anime had aired in 35 other countries outside of Japan since Doraemon’s conception 45 years ago, long enjoying no small popularity in the rest of Asia in particular.
Disney intends to broadcast 26 episodes on a daily basis, quite a generous schedule considering TV broadcast cartoons are usually limited to single days.
To spare impressionable young minds the harmful impact of Asian culture, the show is to be thoroughly localised – forks safely replace chopsticks, dollars yen, the scenes of overeating which do so much more to induce childhood obesity than fast-food commercials are cut to less American portion sizes, and even Sue (Shizuka) is to get a more “boyish” character.
Disney and Asahi apparently even plan to make the US version the global standard, finally delivering Doraemon’s dated antics to the children of the rest of the world – if they are well received by US audiences, at least.

How in the name of god are they going to handle Shizuka? She ends up naked as a very infamous running gag.
Although... didn't they censor the hell out of Shizuka in the latest reboot?
Edit: Wait... is this a parody or something? Disney is going to give it the 4kids treatment? Replacing any mention of Asian culture with American culture? renaming Shizuka as "Sue"? The hell?
I remembered when they brought over Card Captor Sakura and I watched both the Japanese version and American version. I remember the japanese version had all sorts of semi-mature romantic interests going on across the characters; normal boy/girl, semi-incestuous love, teacher/student love, girl/girl love, some bromance, etc. Also had some emotional parts too. American version? nope, all gone. Everything was edited and changed; entire scripts were re-written; and some episodes with some "adult" themes were just not aired. Just all action.
expect the whole cast got renamed, or should i say, americanized. they'll be eating hamburgers and tacos throughout the show
http://comicsalliance.com/doraemon-disney-xd/
Okay, confirmed some of the americanized name:
Takecopter = Hopter/Flapper
Dokodemo Door = Anywhere Door (The only translation I'm agreeing with)
Shizuka = Sue
Nobita = Noby
Suneo = Sneech (.....)
Giant/Jaian = Big G (Seriously? There's an english alternative right from the start! They're avoiding any possible copyright claim from a certain wrestler or something, aren't they)
Dorayaki = Yummy buns (.....)
and last, but not lest,
Me = *facepalm*

The names actually sound really good for a localization. Especially Sneech. It totally matches his personality.
I have to agree though, why not stick with Giant? And yummy buns just sounds retarded. They could just call them pancakes and noone would ever know the difference.
Sneech might not sound weird for people with english as native language. To a foreigner like me, it sounds damn bizarre.
Will they eat donuts instead of riceballs?
BTW, in tagalog, Jaian's name was changed to Damulag, which means big as well but in a degrading expression...
Stop the pain.......
Nobita -> Noby
That cannot happen. That's his surname already.
Is this an edited version of what airs in Japan or a completely different production?

Disney intends to broadcast 26 episodes on a daily basis, quite a generous schedule considering TV broadcast cartoons are usually limited to single days. <---- hmm, 26...not the whole 1787 or whatever eps this show has?
"Disney intends to broadcast 26 episodes on a daily basis, quite a generous schedule considering TV broadcast cartoons are usually limited to single days."
Does this mean they're only gonna broadcast 26 episodes, and broadcast episodes on a daily basis? OR does it mea that they're broadcasting 26 episodes daily?
Omfg wow. my comment "The huge ones" was spammed 3 times. Omfg when I kept refreshing, it wasn't appearing..
clown of the day spotted
If they broadcast 26 episodes every day they could actually manage to catch up..
-had 3 seasons apparently, 1st with 26 ep aired in 1973, 2nd aired 1979 to 2005 with 1787 episodes, and 3rd that started 2005 and is ongoing.
-Btw, "Disney intends to broadcast 26 episodes on a daily basis, quite a generous schedule considering TV broadcast cartoons are usually limited to single days."

.....Not sure this is really gonna take with kids over here. I mean not everything Disney touches automatically becomes a big hit, people still gotta watch it. Way I see it, they probably waited too long. for this to matter to American audiences.
Doraemon has 3 seasons (Dunno if they're just remakes or not... Ima say seasons).
1. Aired in 1973 with 26 episodes,
2.aired 1979 to 2005 with 1787 episodes, and
3. aired starting april in 2005, and apparently still ongoing.
Ho Lee Fuq.
Btw, "26 episodes on a daily basis"
Does this mean they're going to broadcast only 26 episodes, and air on a daily basis? OR does it mean they're going to air 26 episodes daily?
It's going to be as successful as Marsupilami.
What the fuck is that?
Precisely!
*Cue Hank Hill's reaction*
OOHOOHOHHOHHOHHOOHHOHOHO!!!!!
Why couldn't they just localize it themselves like a lot of manga publishers are starting to do? I just hope they consume Disney in the end.
Hm... Doesn't doraemon feature little girl nudity now and then? Not gonna happen in the US of A.
Guess those undergarments will be surprisingly resistant to tuned vacuum cleaners and similar... gadgets.
I really should read the whole message - "a more boyish character" will mean they will switch her into a him like they did in some versions of digimon frontier with that yellow thing woman.
Will be really awkward for those romantic scenes just as is the transformation into that female priest was....
Or is it a secret plot to make the growing generations more tolerant to homosexuality? Hmmm...
Well, if a 'him' is supposed to be named Sue, they got something else coming.
No, read even more carefully; Shizuka stays as a girl; it's just that they want to cut n trim the series, leaving enough for the bare accepted minimum for US broadcasting legislations. And Yeah, they want to localize it too, apparently by neutralization.
In Turkey they pixelated Nobita's shoes.
I wonder why foreign show coming into US must be filtered right to the level of core culture?
Doraemon almost circled around the globe already at this point and not even once, a country filtered it to this stage. Most of them only removed scenes with nudity and a number of Japanese terms are still retained; my country's dub called Dorayaki as Dorayaki and the characters kept their original names.
fuck Disney, it's full of Jews with marvel and the star wars franchises
4 dimension pocket is kind of superpower
it can produce machine that print legal money
Did you miss 4kids? Don't worry! Disney is here!
Japan's doraemon loves "Dorayaki",not Pizza.
this is not Doraemon.
Inb4 Disney includes some Star Wars innuendo.
Sounds awful. I can understand some localization like taking out the bath scenes of shizuka.. but changing the money and an entire character"s personality?
Expect a shit load of stuff to be cut and changed.
which mostly, involves Shizuka-chan
and 08:38
Doraemon aired here daily for over 15 years... Then kids started to find it boring, plummeting audience rates and canceling it. I'm pretty sure the same will happen in the USA. After almost 50 years, there are things better suited for kids than Doraemon. It simply comes too late...
Doraemon is still interesting, if only the kids actually watched it properly and take time to absorb the moral of the story.
Its just that they find it getting boring because there are too friggin' many things that keep them at bay nowadays; internet, videogames, selfie-ing, mobile apps, porn etc etc and need I remind you that almost every kid born from 2012 onward might as well got a smartphone attached to their umbilical cord. TV shows just got almost no chance already.
Well, my niece is just 5yo and finds Doraemon boring. And no, no videogames, smartphones, etc to get addicted to for the moment, just plain old TV...
she needs to grow up more. doraemon's actually quite heavy for children under 6~7
I agree with the Anonymous, Anonymous. She needs to grow more first. I only started watching it at my 7 years. I wasn't getting it before that.
I think it'll be similar to Domo-kun's US localization. It didn't take over the world, but it did enjoy a following. I don't think Doraemon is too late at all, just that it won't be anywhere near a household name.
hah so Doraemon is now an American?
Dryaemon. or possibly renamed to Magical Cat-bot
Burgeremon
