The efforts of one particular Shingeki no Kyojin fan have drawn titanic online appreciation thanks to his exceptional forgecraft, having recently completed a year long labour to create an immaculate replica of the blades used in the show.
A video detailing their creation:
Images of the blades, with their handiwork on a daikon radish demonstrating their sharpness:
The total cost is said to have been in the region of 500,000, although there is apparently some talk of selling subsequent blades for less.

I don't know if Isayama designed it to work that way, but having the lever release the blade is a really bad idea. One wrong bump and there goes your blade.
That, and the thin piece of steel as blade. On the ground it might still be controllable but while monkeying around with the 3D maneuver gear, it's most likely to chop the user's head off before he can even chop a titan's neck
I can see it being a good idea for a cosplayer, though.
Before an event, release your blades and replace with cardboard cut to fit.
Whereas for more informal stuff (cutting daikons) you can go full steel.
For cosplay, I'd use a thin rigid plastic sheet covered with styrofoam then painted.
That way you can use it for SoftCombat.
Perfect for playing a bit in any convention.
Depends on the strength of the trigger.
I'd use a syringe style trigger for pointing finger that's resting 1.5 times the tickness of the average finger away from the handle, so you can grip that handle tight without "pulling" an oops.
When the blade dulls you simply reach out and pull it.
Too sensitive to jamming. I would simply use multiple triggers, only releasing the blade when all are pushed at the same time.
welp that's amazing. Would be nice to have a pair of those
The jealousy is fuckin real in these comments lol
Including you lol
Haters love to disrespect anything they have no skill, passion, knowledge, money, to do themselves.
They are compelled to say negative things, without any understanding of the source, here, never having watched the anime. The drive to put down someone/something that they can't match is so strong they blurt nonsensical epithets of abuse toward what challenges their self-esteem and narcissism.
Sociopathic behavior and egoism drive them to belittle people/ideas/accomplishments they know they cannot achieve.
If anything, feel sorry for someone, so damaged by insecurity, they cannot appreciate anyones accomplishments.
You seem to assume the "source" are great weapons. Have you considered they may also be complete crap?
Random Unicorn music ftw.
Sick handles. Blades look a bit lack luster but still, Nice job.
The blade looks really poor quality.
Looks like he spent all his money and time on the handle instead.
The blades are supposed to be shitty quality in the show, since they're meant to be disposable. They're so sharp that they break under slightest provocation, and the soldiers carry a dozen extra, detachable blades on their belts to compensate.
SO I guess it's the same idea as disposable razors...
Their durability is shitty, but their performance in slicing is amazing.
In fact, sharpness is not that much of an issue for durability. Blades are shit in the anime probably because the steel qualities, just like japanese steel is crap for forging when compared to spanish, for example.
Historically, that's what forced them to use differential hardening and lamination for their swords.
I'd like to see these made by man-at-arms(a blacksmith who replicates weapons from games, movies and even anime on youtube, for those who haven't seen it)...
YES!
my first thought exactly, i thought they made this.
No.
He gets inundated by enough weeaboo shittery as it is.
For a years work, that is one terrible blade. My friend who goes around to Celtic festivals could make a better one in a few days.
Yes, well ... I'm fairly certain people who go to those festivals have a much easier time with it, seeing as they do have access to whatever would be useful in the process and this guy is probably an amateur or close to it.
I do agree it looks fairly bad for a year's worth of work, though.
it slices, it dices, it turns giants into haze!
Order now and you get a tornister of replacement blades for free!
Call 555-fuck-the-titans!

These are better I thought
those weapons will protect your virginity
really?
the guy had become rich
the blades are missing the breakaways.
Exactly my first tought.
wobbly floppy looking waste of time. now all you need is a bunch of squarez n rejects in costumes and you all can climb trees in the forest screaming together chopping bushes n branches n stuff.
My uncle does better work in his spare time than what these guys did. Maybe I can convince him to make these.
lol
Not impressed.
Radishes don't hit back.
Fucking Asians, man...
FUCKING. ASIANS.
MAN.
The handles are ok, but the blades are far from "exceptional" in fact, they are complete shit, that's what you get when you use sheet metal, there's no detail in the blades at all. That seriously took a year? It's obvious he used a computer. In the time it took him to put the 3d image in there he could have used simple gun grip checkering chisels and finished that part in under 30 minutes.
The mechanism that locks the blade looks extremely flimsy. Not that you'd be using these to kill anything other than radish titans...
Seems like most of us were expecting this guy to make a *real* weapon instead of a replica. That thing's made for show & is probably a good job in that respect. Otherwise, he'd of been chopping blocks of wood or stone rather than stew ingredients.
why not colossal devotion..?
