Man Arrested for Shaking Hands with JK

seated-schoolgirl

A man has been arrested for shaking hands after a high schooler accepted his offer of a handshake on a train.

The 34-year-old juku instructor was on board a Kagoshima prefecture commuter train one evening, where he found himself seated in front of a 16-year-old high school girl.

He attempted to strike up a conversation with her, and suggested “let’s shake hands,” and when the girl found herself unable to refuse this request he grasped her proffered hand.

For this outrageous crime he soon found himself arrested under the prefecture’s anti-chikan ordinances.

Police report other incidents of attempted handshaking prompted them to make an arrest, saying that “there were several other cases of handshake requests aboard the trains.”

Online the incident has prompted the usual doubts about the wisdom of boarding the same train as members of the fairer sex, let along attempting to shake hands with them without a ticket:

“So we are finally at the point where you get arrested for shaking hands with someone.”

“To think something like this constitutes a crime.”

“How did they arrest him for this…”

“Police need to get along to one of those AKB events now!”

“Naturally you would arrest someone for the crime of free handshaking.”

“Remember to buy a handshaking event ticket next time.”

“She could have at least refused to shake his hand…”

“Some guy asks to shake your hand on a train with no means of escape, of course you’d be scared!”

“Creepy. One less weirdo on our trains!”

“I want to see what the foreigners say when they hear about this.”

“Arresting him was a bit extreme. Just questioning him would have had the desired effect?”

“It is pretty vindictive that for something like that they publish your full name and occupation.”

“Only a few days ago the media was reporting about a man police killed during interrogation, not a name surfaced but for this they report everything about him?”

“Even I wouldn’t want to shake hands with you lot!”

“If you want to shake hands with young girls you had better be prepared to pay for the privilege like the rest of us!”

That's way too lewd, trying to hold a girl's hand in public!

Yes you must fondle her first.

If you happen to have tentacles or a robot that has them that's a plus.

That's because "Local Police does their fucking job, no crimes to be had today" makes for a shitty read.

Search for "Police brutality" on Youtube and you will be surprised many cases happened in the U.S. There are way more weird news than one can imagine going on in The states, this incident here is comparably mild in my opinion.

That's because US police are REAL FUCKS while Japanese police just fuck around. Most of the police here in the Midwest cities are the worst in the nation for any category you can think of.

People love hearing about all the bad police do, because they're an authority figure. People don't like authority, which is why we complain about bosses, parents, teachers, etc. If the police disappeared for a day, maybe a small town will be fine, but a city? The place would go nuts with crime.

We're getting to the point that if a girl ever feels uncomfortable, a man will be arrested.

if a man boards the same bus/train/airplane as a woman he does not know he will get arrested, this is japan's future.

It's the future, full stop. Contrary to popular belief, this kind of thing is not a Japan-only issue. It doesn't help that everybody turns a blind eye to it happening in their own countries.

I would not call that a future instead it's the end of civilization.

Worry about the west some. In Canada, they want to make it so your wife can murder you if she feels you're abusive. I mean, it's not like she can just fucking leave, right? You don't see it, but the west is almost as bad now.

The problem is the Japanese men come off as beta as hell.

Being extremely beta makes you look more creepy than a rapist. Japanese men just have beta body language so most of them seem creepy.

Isn't that basically what vague terms like "oppressive environment" are supposed to do? The idea is wide "rules" that pretty much break down to discretionary.

While Getting arrested for shaking hands is absurd, You gotta admit telling a random stranger “let’s shake hands” with out the context of a greeting makes all kinds of alarm bells ring.

Some people are so social they will strike up a conversation with anybody, stranger or friend, simply to pass their time, but shaking hands with strangers shouldn't be so natural unless we are talking about a politician trying to secure (future) voters. Thus, definitely at least a bit of a creep.

Really? Here in italy it is quite normal to shake other people hands with strangers while introducing ourselves no matter the age. I would say it is like basic etiquette (did i use right word?)

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd have imagined in most countries an equivalent of "Excuse me, is this seat free?" would be more than enough when sitting next to a stranger aboard public transportation, instead of needing to shake hands and introduce yourself.

it is enough but for exemple I always try to start a conversation with the one i sit with. Well we in the south are usually more friendly even with people we dont know.

But why would a 34 year old guy want to introduce himself to an unknown underage girl on a train? I guess that would be considered weird in Italy, too.

Actually, I believe in Europe it's normally up to the person the other one is supposed to be more courteous to to offer the handshake. The other one can always ask though. The factors can be age, gender, the business they have with each other and so on.

You'll notice that one of the comments was, “I want to see what the foreigners say when they hear about this.”
That's because they know how perfunctory hand shaking is in the US. In Japan, however it would be unusual to ask for a handshake from a stranger that you weren't meeting for business purposes.
It's SO obvious that he was trying to come up with a way to touch young women that they would have trouble saying no to.

Sometimes when picking up prostitutes or being approached by one, it is common for you or the prostitute to start the conversation with, "Got a light?" or "Got a cigarette?"
And drug dealers will often ask, "Are you alright?" or "You need somethin'?"
Apparently, police in Japan see adults talking to schoolgirls in the same light.
