Japan do need some farmers to keep rural areas populated. Many places become ghost towns because the last farmers died of old age.

The funny part is Oda originally planned for it to run for five years but was having "too much fun" (steady paycheck) to stop.
He did say the manga was about halfway finished around the time episode 500 of the anime was airing so maybe, MAYBE we'll see the end in another 10-15 years.
As long as One Piece continues to be so fucking entertaining I would not mind it lasting another 20 years man!

The only people who think bad of fillers are manga purists. People who only watch the anime wouldn't know, wouldnt care, and say "oh no not source material bad bad".
Naruto is absolutle the worst with fillers b/c they are the worst kind recap eps and "new" eps filled 80% with flasbacks.
Bleach was better with it b/c they did entire original (or fillers as some like to call it) story arcs which I thought some were pretty good but others imediately wrote off b/c they were fillers which is rediculous to me.
Also canon arcs can be just as bad and pointless as fillers. Skypiea Arc and Davy Fight Back arc anyone?

Well i dont think he meant "filler" in the sense you are thinking.
In Bleach the major over arcing storyline was Aizen. They completly ignored that story for years, with random story arcs (fluff), and then finally came back to it in the final season. Filler in the sense it didnt really progress the story in the anime or manga.
Same with Naruto, the over arching story was rescuing Sasuke. They've touched upon it a few times but it also has pretty much been ignored.
Like the guy above its not even really about "finding one piece" anymore just a bunch a fluff story arcs till they actually decide to look for it or stumble upon a clue to its location
