About the sword - it's made of metal. From the looks of it the same special metal as their bullets, which is why he uses it to fight the monsters. Of course that's why it would be repelled too. But kicks/punches wouldn't.

I for one would like how this progress seeing as how I like both guro and lolis, also, with the slow pacing the anime industry gets (in terms of money) it isn't at all surprising that they'd have a need to incorporate these things to seduce the loli combat fans.
If it doesn't float your boat then move onto a different anime. Complaining about how cliche and how much you dislike it (as you continue to watch it) won't do much except feed your thoughts on what an anime should and what shouldn't be (in your vocal opinion). Wait 'till episode 5 or so and see whether you like it or not, I know I will.
Many studios would like to make more deeper and interesting animes but you simply can't do that unless you have stable grounds to stand on.
I did move on, after giving it a couple of episodes and seeing the poor quality of the writing and the reliance on overly-simplistic drama to evoke a cheap emotional response.
Life's just too short to stick with this kind of lazy stuff for 5 or more episodes. There are genuinely good anime out there that put in an effort, so there's no reason to try to attribute goodness to an anime that has shown none.
Besides, if the best defense you have is to attack the people who have rightly pointed out that this is cliched and lazy storytelling, or say that the creators have to "seduce" an audience, then why stop at this shlock? Why not forgive Fractale, Dragon Crisis, and all the other despised anime out there?
That wasn't my intention. It does look shitty to the people who stray from animes like these but it doesn't to those who like the cliche aspect and/or are Japanophiles and alike. Besides, who knows there may be a plot twist or something. There are very few animes as you said that put a good amount of effort, though they're in short supply every season, hoever! If you just want something that doesn't have a big impact like a deep plot then lolis and guro it is. If I do decide to watch this to the end I won't have many regrets as it isn't really a show that stands out in it's crowed (so far). I do like the stance this anime has on blood and gore that many animes similar to this are too scared to even touch.. that's about it though.
