The trailer to Hollywood’s Tom Cruise vehicle adaptation of time loop military SF light novel All You Need Is Kill -retitled to “Edge of Tomorrow” for the discerning American audience – has been attracting attention amongst fans of the original, with some even prepared to concede it may actually be good.
The trailer seems to have earned some approval, although there are still the expected complaints about Hollywood taking liberties with the source material from Japanese fans, and the production still seems to be having trouble living down unflattering shots of Cruise lumbering about in a powered exo-skeleton.
The Japanese release retains the All You Need Is Kill title:

The movie is due for release June 6th.

All you need is kill la kill Hollywood.
Directed by Michael Bay, because only he can pull off such ridiculous nonsense.
lametard
and staring MEGAN FOX AS RYUKO!!
You know what... that might actually sell in America... @_@
I've never heard of this thing. Looks like another gross brown military shooter.
Like Enders Game without fancy Battle School, more dying in the ditch and reloading safe file over and over again.
Looks like someones been playing too much COD.
Is it just me or is that mech looking for fudge?
No, just no, their hearts are in the right place, but i feel that with movies like these, you have to stick to the source material as much as possible.
It looks good, only those differences are too bid for me. At least they changed the title, so you can say it is a movie "inspired" by the original novel, not an adaptation.
That's pretty much what you do to avoid the wave of criticism of making a half-assed job.
No one in Hollywood can stick to the source material with even English language novels/comics, for example X-men:days of raping a great comic book story. Hell even stuff that is done well like Game of Thrones they muck about with the details. Too much cocaine-fueled delusions of grandeur.
To be fair, Japan routinely rapes manga. The number of awful manga adaptations far outnumber the good ones. If you want to see a first class hatchet job, check out Shinobi, which is a live action movie based on Basilisk, which was an anime based on the novel Kouga Ninpouchou....not even hollywood could butcher a story as bad as the Japanese did in Shinobi.
isnt bad as hollywoodan movies
Hollywood can't butcher anything? Two words: Dragonball Evolution
I've got 5: Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins
Why the hell is Cruise still being cast? He can't act at all. Always the same face.
"always the same face"
It's not like he's going to actually get plastic surgery every time he stars in a film.
lol... classic
Cruise has killed his facial muscles with botox and can't change his facial expression without plastic surgery. So, in a way you're right.
how much have you spent on your plastic surgeries?
Reminds me of Tom Cruise being cast as Jack Reacher. Apparently the character Jack Reacher in the books they're based on is this huge motherfucker. But lol Cruise. Hollywood doesn't care.
A huge motherfucker? That sounds pretty type-cast for Cruise to me. Wouldn't he be playing himself like in Knight and Day?
anything with cruise is an instant fail, even the best anime/manga like FMA/Titan/GiTS/etc would suck if cruise was involved in any way.
when i first saw the trailer it reminded me of the cliche of constant repeat in time like steins gate, madoka, or the classic hollywood groundhog day... been there, done that type of theme.
i'll still watch it though.
This isn't a story of time being repeated, it's a story where time moves forward but the characters reset.
I was hoping it would be Dust 514: the movie. Instead it's groundhog loop except not really?
Same concept as Groundhog day, the loop resets over and over and over again and they retain their memories from the previous experience.
Yeah, Eve universe would be much more compatible with Hollywood. They should leave the novel alone.
Endless Eight: The Sci-Fi Shooter
So, you didn't read the novel...
This story appears to be writen by a really horrible fps player who got his inspiration from respawning and was rewritten so many times that it ended up like so... But hey what if we can respawn in real life? This somehow kind of feeds that fantasy.
wheres Bill Murray or Punxsutawney Phil?
i didnt see them in the trailer.
We could do with more animatronic groundhog.
Might be a better movie with those two as at least then it would be funny at times.
Threadly reminder that Poland is getting the novels with original illustrations, which is surprising coming from a normalfag publisher.
And in fact it's the first LN in the country.
And they passed JG which has been talking about licensing Spice and Wolf for over a year now.
i'll be frank. i like the manga's armor suit design much, much better.
To be honest myself, I'd much prefer the more egg-suit like design from the light novel cover.
The manga suits look way too halo-like.
which smells like a lawsuit if the movie airs in the US.
So it's Groundhog Day with mechs?
Yep you answered your own question
I saw the trailer months ago, but I had no idea this was based off a Light Novel or anything Japanese.
Americans have no choice, they CAN'T stay faithful to any nippongese material because neckbeards like you all are gonna mouthbreath and wheeze about how much better the book is, whine whine whine.
Plus Japs are a bunch of wads who refuse to let anyone, not even their fellow slant eyes, do anything with the vast library they're sitting on, so the only way to lift the subject is to basicly 'parody' or 'adapt' it.
What the fuck are you talking about? Anyone on earth is free to adapt Japanese novels/comics/characters. Koreans do it regularly. There have been quite a few Japanese shows re-done by Korean studios (and vice versa). The chinese also do it, which is only fair since Japan does a lot of Chinese material.
Korean City Hunter anyone?
Ahh the only people who can fucking something over worse then Hollywood.
Show me an anime that stays completely faithful to its light novel or manga source material. I'd ask you to show me a Japanese live-action movie, but that's absolutely impossible.
If the nipplese can't stay faithful to their own material, why would you expect different of the Adapticans?
Monster is extremely faithful. FMAB is also very faithful with only a handful of changes for the most minimal scenes.
Because Monster could be easily replaced with live human characters. Try saying the same thing about fantasy material.
Japan, more specifically the anime and manga industry would let anyone adapt anything for the right amount of $$$$$. The lack of anime/manga adaption is because of a lack of interest in Hollywood, not because they wouldn't be able to get the rights to something like Ghost in the Shell, Death Note, Macross etc.
