Soul Eater fans have been aghast at the advent of the anime version of its firmly Type B spin-off Soul Eater NOT!, with its first episode packed with moe-fied character designs, character cameos, and moeblob antics, none of which seem to have met with the expected adulation.

Least the title doesn't lie, it's not soul eater.
people's fault upon expecting too much. it's meant to be lighter than the main manga hence the "not" part in it's title but.. eh, people have narrow minds to say the least.
I completely agree with you. People expect way too much from this, thinking it'd be like Soul Eater. Idk why someone Disliked ur comment, I'd like it if I could.
I don't hate that this show is about cute girls doing cute things, I hate that it's completely and utterly bland and soulless.
Their souls are eaten.
You know, just playing devil's advocate here, but a person could go around saying "I absolutely love moe but this show absolutely sucks"... to every single moe anime ever, just to fulfill a crazy personal agenda. Just saying that without details about the show to back it up and explain why is still vapid and pointless whither it's positive or negative (although far more of a problem if negative). Not that there are usually very constructive comments on this site anyways...
"It's completely - !" Sorry I can't disagree more, ONE episode is released and only by seeing these old characters back in animation it really felt GOOD. We know they changed the artstyle but holy shit, it doesn't change that Maka is still MAKA.
And your argument is a piece of SHIT to taste, "I HATE THAT ITS COMPLETELY BLAND AND SOULLESS BUT I AIN'T GONNA EXPLAIN WHY." Fucking get yourself together and explain your POINT OF VIEW.
You mean like how you explained your point of view?
I can see why someone would think this is bland, not sure about the soulless part, since the series has a slow start and main characters from Soul Eater aren't the focus so they don't show up much.
Still, attacking someone's comment like that ain't good.
Bland and soulless..........much like Japan.
The art style was about the only thing noteworthy about Soul Eater to begin with. Without the Tim Burton-esque visuals, it's just a paint-by-numbers shounen that's kind of a waste of time.
Maka's plainness and frequent scowling was something that was interesting about the original.
Why does this have to fuck that up? I understand that it's deliberately very different, but then why doesn't it emphasize that by leaving the original characters as they were, or at least closer to that?
I liked the insane Maka better. Insanity was the one good thing about soul eater that made it different from the rest,.. but somehow the story managed to get rid of that and went fulltime Shounen.
Wouldn't it have been interesting if Maka and her Partner went on to become the bad guys and then kicked some ass?
This takes place like when their 13 so of course their gonna be different, plus the manga is basically about the girls finding their place with each other with mild appearances by the main characters, basically what happens behind the scenes
Soul Eater Not is a prequel, so something probably happens that makes Maka less happy. (though I haven't read the SE-Not manga, so IDK)
gee? could her dad NOT have got caught cheating, thus making her parents get divorced yet?
Maka is actually a nice girl...unless she's dealing with her father, Soul and her colleagues including Black Star. She's a nice person, she just hangs out with people who grate on her nerves on a daily basis.
You must admit tho, during soul eater the actual plot line was rather intense. And Maka was brooding over stuff a lot. I'm not saying it wasnt good but it'd explain the sudden shift in tone. We only see Maka when she is being a top student showing off to her underclass men or just doing her own thing. Its a little unfair to say her entire personality has changed based on this one episode and her obligatory cameos
was Soul Eater making no money, thus the editor suggested this to make money out of it?
Yeah. nowadays moe sells much more stuff
Which is quite sad. Sacrificing quality for commodity.
...I now have exactly no interest in this show.
Retarded, past style and animation were better.
Maka = Moe blob... poor Maka
moeblob... that is a term I haven't seen used in a while, at least not around here... I often wonder about the 'blobs and why no one talks about them anymore... yes, poor blob...
"Moeblob" seems to be a phrase invented and popularised by Artefact during his random attacks on K-On. Somehow even today you can find people claiming that they "Hate K-On" without ever having watched it, basing their opinion purely on Artefacts whimsical hype/trash train.
Should go without saying how that's pretty damn dumb.
THIS SUCKED! As someone who has read the manga, mostly, I can tell you it only gets worse from here.
Was there REALLY demand for this? Like ANY demand for this? And what's more, they didn't even get Gainax to animate it this time.
Um, Bones animated it. Both the original and this.
They'll have to end this series with filler episodes, the manga doesn't have enough content to last 13 episodes.
You know what I like about this style of animation of Soul Eater? Their noses don't look like someone shoved them up into their brains.
this is a sad fucked up world we live in.
Did i mention this show pretty much insults the original franchise. IF there was any amount of decent action in the show and manga I'd say better things, but like the article says, this has been k-onified. It's pretty pathetic. The story is shit.
Well, at least Maka's eyes doesn't seem dead and soul less...?
Someone screwed up on the omakes because there are two Fairy Tail Series 2 mixed in. One of Wendy casting Milky Way and the other of Sting getting the crap beaten out of him.
Maka looks so horrible in this.
think I will check it out, I read the manga for a bit then thought it probably be more interesting as an anime and here we go!
Clashing of the visual styles hurts!
It may be true to the manga, it may be different story with different focus and it may even have some merits on its own. But its a bad idea. Its a hate magnet by design, it looks totally bland and uninteresting and wild change in visual style is just stupid. Was the story that weak so it needed to be tackled onto an existing series to get any buzz? It definitelly seems to.
Yet I am not disapointed - from the title picture on anidb I had no expectations about this series and it met all of them. Not a single thing was interesting about it. It didnt surprised at the slightest. Story is slow, boring, characters are stock by the book stereotypes and all the cameos just reming me of a better story.
wait is that FairyTail jumbled with Soul Eater Not! ?
"K-on Eater" another victim of MOEservice plop.
Wow, you mean people don't like it when one of the rare Type A, plot driven, animes is turned into YET ANOTHER moe schlock fest?
Who would've thought that people don't like having a minority among anime turned into the common filler bullshit pandered out time and time again :D. It's like the unique ideas and presentation were part of the appeal or something.
Such high praise for a stereotypical Shonen. '_'
Someone didn't' check their omakes before posting because you have Wendy Marvell casting Milky Way from the first episode of Fairy Tail Series 2.
Impossible. It has men and people don't have those ugly chipmunk teeth.
No Excalibur, no watch
FOOL D:<
Is Blair going to be in this one?
If I remember it right, she might be involved when they get the part time job at the cafe...
Blair appears much later in the timeline. Here Maka is still gathering the 100 souls before trying to get Blair's one.
Eeeehhhhhhhhhhh?!
Even though Sakura Trick is gone, the yuri is strong this season.
Don't tell me this can feel the void Sakura Trick left. So far the only show with a yurish premise is Akuma Riddle and I expect them to bait and switch.
Akuma riddle is a yuri though.
