AKB48 “rival” idol group Nogizaka46 have been aggravating Madoka fans with their live action TV advertisement for the recent BD/DVD release of Madoka Magica Rebellion – rapidly accruing massive opprobrium for its attempt to pass off “21-year-old hags” as “shoujo” and the low level of their costumery.
The TV spots, both currently being massively panned even by the YouTube audience:

Maybe if Japan stopped making stories where all the characters are jailbait....
IE: One of the reasons Ghost in the Shell is my favorite anime, and a great example of what anime for grown-ups should be.
The lack of a Ghost in the Shell 3rd Gig is criminal, they've had so much time. Its been almost 8 years since the last episode lol
Well, they made GitS: ARISE. But that one isn't living up to the standard the Ghost in the Shell name represents.
Also why I like Cowboy Bebop as well.
What if Major was really a loli but she choose older body to look more mature ?
then you're thinking about some crappy shonen and not Ghost in the Shell.
Espescially the movie from 1995, where in the end...
I'm not 15 years old anymore, I really like the more mature series. Putting always a 13-18y as your protagonist limits so fucking much.
Where in the end it was still a prosthetic body. That's like comparing a girl to a sex doll, when there's not a consciousness in it then it's not a person.
300 year old loli vampires? Haibara Ai? Tsukuyomi Komoe? There's so many good examples, why would you use a sex doll for the comparison xD
How about a mahou shoujo show based around '18 years later Mami'
Maybe if you would just fall off a cliff...
so true. Japan really IS the very worst nation on earth. It's as if every one of their beta "males" ( that's all of them, by the way ) are retarded paedophiles. One silver lining to this cloud however, is that because all Japanese men literally cannot face sex with anyone over the age of 8, it means that either the population will soon die off within a couple of generations or Japanese women will have no alternative to give in to the western beasts and breed with them instead, creating a new superu race ! I don't think many of us will have too much shame in making love to one of those 21 year old "hags" over there. A final hope is that there is another super earthquake that finally swallows the entire islands into the depths of the ocean.
such a high quality post; you must be proud.
Now just add "so we need to go back to our old values and traditions to save our true japanese superiority! Damn commie Koreans! Damn stupid hairy foreigners!" and it instantly turns into an speech made by Ishihara.
chinese monkey detect
Loser Wapanese detected.
If you despise Japan so much, why are you here?
Porn.
while i do agree on the beta male thing and the rampant borderline damn pedophilia going on with men...
wishing all of japan death like that is taking it a liiiiittle too damn far doncha think?
But yeah im sick of all the moe moe bullshit and school/teen settings in 99% of animes lately. I want more thinks like Death note, claymore or AoT to name a few quality animes
21-year-old girls? Dear gawd! The life crystals embedded in their hands must be flashing. Send them to Carousel at once!
Actually o21 is the age of the oldest member.
visual kei a shit
It'd be different if their music was actually good.
DISGUSTING
Hags? You're kidding, right?
Sooo, which one is Madoka?
They couldn't even get the heights right. Madoka is taller than Sayaka WTF?
- its attempt to pass off “21-year-old hags” as “shoujo” - XDDDDDD
That made my day
ick... "low level of their costumery" doesn't even begin to describe how bad they look. Cosplay that ain't... it's more like some fucked up redesign that a Hollywood adaptation would make under the horrible assumption that the original iconic designs were too nerdy for mainstream audiences.
Is that even cosplay? They look nothing like any Madoka clothes ever.
I haven't watched Madoka Magica at all (Yet), But I really do want to one day if I have the time. And, that idol csoplay of it kinda sucked imo...
Trying to act out madoka scenes IRL would kinda suck or look bad cuz magic and Real Life dun look nice together.
Sankaku do some post on BabyMetal!
thank you, i was trying to remember the name
KAWAII
JA NAI
Kawaikunai.
Damn rere.
meguka's bizarre adventures!
:D
The fan outrage(?) is probably because it bears no resemblance to PMMM in the first place. It's just a bunch of girls in gothic lolita fashion with a couple props - Kyuubey and a soul gem. It's like if a clean-shaven guy in blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a ball cap showed up and went "hey, itsa mee - Mario!"
Actually, it's kind of what we see in most video game movies - no respect for the source material, because the director thinks they can do "better" with their own ideas... which no longer fit the title they're making their movie under.
I don't even mind this. I just want the whole Madoka franchise to die. If Madoka fans are upset about this... well that's just gravy.
Video wasn't that bad. All american film's teenage actors are played by adults, so everything is legit here.
I recognize Homura through her wrist disc (and only that), but I have no idea who the others are supposed to be.
Da fack?! We barbarians can't even peek on the original video? It was so bad that the user doesn't want to shame Yamato?
This is bs. Nogizaka46 is a far better idol group than AKB or any of its boring and untalented spin-offs.
I think this has turned into a discussion about the age of characters in anime and strayed from the original topic. Which is, this advertizement/music video is a terrible rendition of Madoka Magica. There is nothing wrong with the age of the idols. What's horrible is the lack in any effort put into the stage they are performing on, the costumes look ridiculous and the weapons don't even resemble from the anime.
I don't know how this got passed as a CM for the Madoka Magica Movie BD.
cant wait 4 lolicon trash to rot in jail
Movie looks perfectly watchable to me, and those "hags" are fucking gorgeous.
So the blonde one is supposed to be Mami, amirite ?
I don't support AKB48 in any way but do they even have any real rivals? All their so called "rivals" are so pathetic, which isn't surprising how pathetic the original(AKB48) is... but even so...
Their "rivals" are mostly idol teams made by the same agency using the same model... So no, there's no rivalry when there's no need to compete, the moneymakers still make tons of money whatever happens...
Not only is it a ridiculous concept that takes a lot of resources, but the founders may have Yakuza ties, so it seems like an unwise choice - not that they'd come and kill you, but you may not even get a fair chance at taking on the AKB monster.
It's possible Morning Musume/Hello! Project is a kind of competition - but not really rivals, or on the same scale. Probably what inspired AKB48 though, or at least acts like it.
Morning Musume was heavily (see also: entirely) inspired by Onyako Club, from the same producer as AKB
Fair point. I got into J-pop in the 90s so I missed Onyanko Club. My main point is that these groups are juggernauts and it's probably really uneconomical to try to compete with them (unless you already own all the others.)
Of course, it's the guys from over the- wait, we aren't allowed to mention those guys to the west
