    There's as much good anime now as there was in any other time, as long as there is a public for such and willing artists and production companies. There's a lot of people that don't settle for your Freezes and Queens Blades -- it's like saying public will stop watching movies and TV series because they can freely watch porn on redtube now.

    Bad quality exploitative anime is around, because these sell a lot with relatively low investment. These borderline hentai and extreme moe shows are an effect of porn going 'up in quality' and getting to a mainstream channel, not an effect of general anime going down.

    When it became more mainstream it lost a lot of that so it would sell better for a broader audience.

    Just now it is starting to go back to the way it was.

    Had it not been toned down in the late 90's early 2000's it would probably would have gotten much worse.

    It's like you weren't around for shows like Secret Agent Aika, Burn Up W, Plastic Little, Cream Lemon, etc. Anime industry has gotten significantly larger which means there will be a proportional growth in ecchi-related shows. Ecchi shows have only been getting popular since anime has really taken off with sketchy elements that can be seen even in children's shows because sex is to Japan what is violence is to US.

    The QB anime has always been through the ecchi line, but this VQ Special isn't anywhere near borderline hentai like say, Nozoki Anna... it's at the same levels the QB anime has always generally been at, maybe a bit ecchier but not by much.

    If you want stuff that's borderline hentai, you look at Nozoki Anna, Yosuga No Sora or Kagaku na Yatsura. Those actually have sex in it that is presented in a softcore manner. THOSE are borderline hentai.

    Actually, it's true that both "porn" anime and anime like Queen's Blade can be called hentai or ecchi, but there is obviously a clear distinction between something like Bible Black and this (if anyone here thinks they're the same, they're clearly just being really ignorant). Outside of Japan that distinction has come to be called "ecchi" and "hentai". It's just one of those things that happened. In Japan, both words mean perverted and both kinds of anime are perverted, but Queen's Blade CANNOT be called an ero-anime or "erotic" anime. Erotic anime is a term reserved for anime focused on scenes of intercourse, plain and simple. Same goes for "eroge". You're not gonna see people calling Senran Kagura an "eroge".

    the lack of male mc is the source. it not being yuri as well hurts sales even more. queen's blade has plot if you believe it or not, it's just that you can't get over the boobs to the face while having no male mc whatsoever.

    another issue is the weight of the series. QB seems to have heavy and seemingly extreme developments while TLR has basicly nothing, if not lighter development that usually sells in the market.

    bottom line is that the market enjoys things that doesn't automatically brand them a pervert.
