Both are worth keeping.
Probably so, some the shadows in the original give the scenes a better tone than the touched up blue rays do.
So they wasted time to change... nothing? in the anime?
There are a lot of small differences in the details. I would never notice them when watching an episode. Only in these still shots is it noticeable for me.
Yeah, for example, Koyomi's porn magazines. Now we can clearly see they cover a lot of fetishes... Blondes, JS, JK, Megane, imoutos, sportygirls... Every girl in the series, except Nadeko. That's the true reason the yandere snapped : he wasn't fapping to her.

I think of it as more like Either option 1: "C'mon guys, Make as may changes as you can to catch our fans' eyes! (Hehehe... More changes mean they'll want to buy the disk to see all of it...)
Or option 2:C'MON CHANGE IT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN, WE NEED TO IMPROVE IT! MAKE IT THE BEST POSSIBLE EVER!!!!!!!

For all the additional work that animation studios put into the Blu-Ray versions, the staff won't ever see an increase in salaries or additional payment for overwork and increased productivity.
In other words, the Japs are very comfortable as sheep.
