Anime is now the chosen medium for anti-smoking campaigns, thanks to the genius of the Okayama prefectural government in commissioning an anime with its “uncoolness” as its main theme.

Whether an anime will have any more success than decades of anti-smoking, anti-drinking, anti-drugs and anti-sex propaganda has had in discouraging minors from indulging in these illicit pleasures is of course open to question…
When are anti-smokers gonna realize that they never will be able to make smoking look “uncool”.
They might be able to target some groups of people and make it seem uncool to them, but only if they are willing to alienate and risk discrimination lawsuits from other groups of people.
Let’s face it, smoking looks cool, so the only way to prevent people from starting to smoke is by scaring people with messages like: “YOUR NEXT CIGARETTE WILL KILL YOU, r♥♥e YOUR GIRLFRIEND, BURN DOWN YOUR HOUSE AND MAKE YOUR KIDS STERILE, also, it will give your neighbor cancer.”
… looking at the message now that i’ve written it, it might just have the opposite effect and end up working as a bad humor marketing campaign instead.
