The only irritating thing in that show are the girly characters. They speak and interact like girls, even their names are girlish. On the hungarian (->me) anime forums, even the girls weren't too impressed by this show.
This series geared toward hardcore gay-fans, which is a small niche group.

It's a shame, Nichijou was splendidly animated (as in there were barely any "shortcuts" for the animation) and it was pretty damn funny and cute.
