Sony Announces “Project Morpheus” HMD

Sony has announced its own head-mounted display for the PlayStation 4, dubbed “Project Morpheus” and finally heralding the arrival of VR on mainstream consoles.
Sony’s experience developing consumer HMDs actually stretches back further than the current main contender – Oculus Rift – and they claim, perhaps even plausibly, to have been working on the latest project for over 3 years:
Our current prototype for Project Morpheus features a head mounted display with 1080p resolution and a 90 degree field of view.
Accelerometer and gyroscope sensors built into the head mounted unit as well as PlayStation Camera accurately tracks head orientation and movement, so as your head rotates, the image of the virtual world rotates intuitively in real-time.
Project Morpheus also features our new 3D audio technology that re-creates stereoscopic sounds in all directions and changes in real-time depending on your head orientation. In addition to PlayStation Camera, Project Morpheus works with DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller and PlayStation Move to deliver an easy-to-use, plug-and-play VR experience.
The prototype for Project Morpheus is the culmination of our work over the last 3+ years as we’ve refined our vision for VR. This prototype will serve as the first development kit for PS4 developers that are as enthusiastic about this new medium as we are.
Not to be outdone, Oculus Rift has also finally started accepting orders for version 2 of its “dev kit” HMD (due to ship in July), although there is still no firm date on the final release of the consumer version – though by all accounts the dev kit is already a formidable product and boasts some fairly impressive PC game support.
As if that were not enough, Microsoft is now also rumoured to be working on an Xbox HMD provisionally dubbed “Fortaleza,” having decided the console still needs to be able to manage actual games as well as TV.

If u play horror games with these, u might accidently knock the HMD off ur face or something. Maybe kick a few wires around the room by accident. Also, If they made SAO for this, it wouldn't really be as good as SAO in the anime since it's basically a screen right in front of ur eyes, not you being in a fake body in a new world.

Actually, I'd expect someone to make .hack's The World MMO in the very near future if adoption takes off in any significant numbers. The World was just a VR helmet like this or the Occulus Rift with headphones and a controller. Sword Art Online requires sensory replacement and mental controls. Of course at that point we'll probably wipe ourselves out as a species hiding in VR because real life sucks.

people think about genetic engineering as short term solutions really don't understand genetic engineering. an organism is the end result of genetic expression. meaning what you see is a completed expression. to change this expression, you need mitosis and time. in your example, to make your girl beautiful, you can give her gene therapy, but she will not change over night. she will however grow more and more beautiful in the span of 7 years. Even with newer and better techniques, there is a minimum safety time delay threshold that you cannot cross.
Of course it's no short-term solution.
Still, a girl who keeps on slowly growing more and more beautiful (or as you ever wanted her to be) over time, is preferable to any random stationary/unchanging doll.

I think they were too late to the party of the VR field.. unfortunately... As much as I dislike Sony and Microsoft together, if Sony took the edge and completely developed project morephus alongside the PS4 they would of had a winner but I think in the end you be only be able to play PS2 games on it.
