The Kyoto subway system is now being graced by some truly painful trains featuring favourites from some of the recent anime set in the nation’s grandest tourist trap.
The wrapped train is due to be running on the Karasuma Line until the end of May, having been organised in collaboration with Kyoto’s own top anime event Kyomaf, the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair.

Ironically the works of Kyoto Animation seem to be conspicuously absent, the company evidently having not been rigorous enough in setting its own anime in Kyoto.

I really like anime and manga but do they really need to slap it in our faces and display the characters on every possible surface?
Yeah, this shit just looks gaudy.
Minimalistic anime stuff that people in the know will get but still looks al right to people who don't. always looks better.
It depends really, many of these look less gaudy than some of the other potentials. If you know about other japanese advertising, then it's all just crazy mascots anyway. Several of these images at least have some depth of character and an inherent story to them without seeing any of the shows for the most part. When you look at each one without knowing the source, you can sense something happening. The 'dude standing' ones may not, but others definitely do. So it just causes someone to stop in their normal everyday life to think about something they wouldn't have for a moment I guess. But there is something to be said for subtlety.
Psycho-Pass FTW
Complain all you want but this isn't so bad unless you have "expectations" of every anime that airs.
I love watching anime, but I have absolutely no expectations other than just enjoying a show. I get what I expect and I'm satisfied. I would love to ride a train to and from work that was filled with anime posters and paintings and graffiti. Sadly, Europe is not a good place for this kind of thing cuz everyone thinks "Anime ? Dragon Ball ?" which is sad cuz they probably seen more than that and yet have no idea it was anime.
Truly disappointing, First World Civilization so uncivilized.
yes they do
YES! The only thing better would be wall screens
on the trains streaming anime 24/7.
Anime is life!

Anime is life!
At Least they chose 2 decent anime, Uchoten and kyousougiga.
I hope they added new shock absorbers on each car, still enough there for all the single people to masterbate at a full head of train steam.
I like it! I don't understand why it could be "painful". It would will from KyoAni character were there (especially K-ON!) but it rather kawaii!
Kyousougiga :)
needs more....
GATCHAMAN CROWDS!!!!!!!!!
I can imagine this being amusing/neat the first few times you see/go inside but will get old fast. Love anime sure, want anime on everything I use? Hell no.
I don't get it. If anime is only for a small niche of Japanese people, why do they advertise so much?
This is something I have wondered for a long time...
you`re getting it wrong. ANIME OTAKUS (people fanatic over anime) are a small niche. but people that watch and to some extent like anime are a big portion of the society.
it`s the same as, let`s say, football in several countries. a great percentage of the population watch and has interest in the sport, but only a small group can be actually considered as football bigots.
boehoo, cry moar, anime isnt kyoto only.
who cares.
KyoAni ftw though
no chikan art?

I came for Kyousougiga.
Okay, as an American I admit it. I don't quite get this. Is the point to advertise for the anime or to get more folks to ride the subway or what? Maybe it scares off the homeless crazy people?
Beats the hell out of advertisements for "My Balding Lawyer" or "Actors, Models & Talent for Christ"
Of another fucking Tiger Woods poster for Accenture.
Or the for profit but unaccredited technical college of the week.
Or the piles of other bullshit we see on trains and such.
At least they didn't put any commercial on the seats...
nice train unlike some trains that had many scribbles like huge F*** U sign or Need S-E-X? Call 1-800-*****.Terribly depressing....
I don't get where is the "painful" part.
Looks weird, most of the itas i have seem here, they look clean and nice, this ones... they look dirty.
Would bang 24/7/365.
honestly... that art was on there last summer. Of course it looks dingy and crappy. Kyoto is "that" much closer to the Chinese world-polutant-asshole. Stupid commie fucknuts don't know how good they had it, and now they will poison themselves to death within the decade. Good riddance... uh... liddance...
How can it be there since last summer, if it's for 2014 promotion.
Is your ass wired to your fingers or something, or do you just type out what you regurgitate?
it's sorta ita...yet it just looks like advertisement. confused! yet cool.
The moe-express.
Kyo-Ani takes a business tie-up with Keihan Railway but not with Kyoto subway. That is the reason why Kyoto-Ani characters do not appear in Kyoto subway.
hm dunno, I like the stickers?, but the posters with the backgrounds not, could be the ugly train fault tho..
Choo choo, all aboard the virgin train.
Certainly less painfull than some random kid with a spraycan trying to make art.
Needs more Azunyan.
