Otaku Shimakaze Birthplace Pilgrimage

The ever increasing popularity of moe anthropomorphized battleship game Kantai Collection has roused further interest in otaku, leading them on a journey to the Maizuru Naval Arsenal Shipyard where Shimakaze‘s impressively equivalent WWII battleship was constructed.
The shipyard is known for having created several of the game’s more notable aquatic forces of destruction, with a public event also having recently taken place, involving a friendly tour, a doujinshi sale and other Shimakaze-related antics.

Further events and tours are being scheduled for July, with plans on restructuring the area in promotion of the upcoming Kantai Collection anime – should the more traditional attractions of nearby Kyoto not possess enough appeal.

If only other countries could luck into as much success in revitalising interest in their nation's history and heritage. I think this whole Kantai phenomenon is going to have a far-reaching and positive impact on tourism and museum attendance. It's quite admirable, really.
Only Japanese are clever enough to use such thing and revive nationalism in the hearts of disinterested youth.

Rather make it into just moe-marketing, i suggest make it into moe-educational-marketing. better yet, use it to bolster the ranks of japan's navy, considering how her neighbour act, she will need it.

Except that japan doesn't have a navy. Or an army. Or an air-force. They're allowed a "Self Defense Force" and that's it as part of their humiliation for losing WW2. They are not allowed to have any offensive military capability whatsoever. If any of their neighbours attack Japan, it isn't Japanese people who'll protect Japan, it's Americans.

Maybe so, However theyre not fully Militarized. As said theyre a Self Defense Force when it comes to anything involving Japan and War you can garauntee America is going to be fighting it for them. Whats the use of Having Ace Pilots when all you can do is Fly around Your "legal" Airspace. Im american and I for one believe we Should Lift the law and let the Japanese Build up a full army.

Plausible but not this time.. The KanColle Graveyard Area is still reeling from the havoc caused by Haiyan. The Last thing people there would like to see are hardcore Otaku searching for the Wrecks of their fave ships. Otoh some might see that as potential for money making..
