Finally: MMDxHMD – “Oculus Rift Lets You Sleep With Miku!”

Japanese researchers have finally discovered an acceptable use for VR in general, and the Oculus Rift in particular, enabling lonely otaku everywhere to sleep next to a virtual girl – in this case holographic princess Hatsune Miku herself.
Tsukuba University researchers developed the technology “for hospital patients who find themselves immobilised,” implementing rendering with MikuMikuDance (the Miku featured is “Tda” Miku) and using the Oculus Rift as the HMD.
Although the considerable healing powers of Miku are beyond doubt, the many other possibilities offered by this particular combination of technologies seem likely to be even more formidable in the coming years…
