Sword Art Online fans seem to have been delighted by the levels of service on display in the first volume of Sword Art Online Progressive, the gaiden manga adaptation of the light novels.
The manga is being serialised in Dengeki G’s (having started from the beginning it is some way behind the novels and anime) and the special edition of the tankobon also comes with various chibi figures by way of an extra:

It's a shame they didn't make the Alfheim Online part longer, for one some of the timeskips were quite jarring, it wouldn't have hurt to just give the series a full 25 episodes devoted to just that game.
Lol opinions, so which member got upset enough to mark me down?
thats very weird, your opinion was a reasonable one. I also think SAO part should have been 25 episodes so it could have been more fleshed out.
since the pacing in that part was god awful.
then have another 12/25 episodes for ALO.
Damned right. SAO should have been 25; fill in what the books missed. Heck, if Naruto can do it for the tailed beasts why can't these guys?
The next two parts after SAO could've shared the 2nd season quite comfortably.
Was that the gay one with the elves? After a few episodes of that i skipped it untill the end and the parts out of the game.
To this day I still don't understand, could anyone please explain to me how a pairing who had measly interactions for 3 episodes before instantly skipping to "hey let's get married for poorly developed reasons and maybe we'll find a convenient plot device girl in the forest to adopt as our daughter" be considered the best pairing of the year?
Did you even read anything about what happened during those 3 episodes?
Years passed for them before they made that decision.
You're not helping your argument. It's part of what made the anime so mediocre. And as an added bonus, it made the admittedly cute Asuna look kind of slutty, with her eagerness to doff her clothes the first time Kirito came over.
Again, as many have pointed out elsewhere… Perhaps there is a good story in the novels but the anime had a lot of failings, with character and relationship development being two of them.
Most anime is mediocre. No need to kick the horse even more.
That's probably true. Having said that, there also seems to be a pattern of excusing such mediocrity by claiming that in leaving the development out, the show is actually good. My own shortcomings lie in sometimes feeling compelled to right this wrong, or at least point it out. For what it's worth, this show seems to attract more excuses than most.
They had way more time to develop their relationship in the light novel. The anime simply fast forwards through shit.
Basically the anime fast forwards through character development.
Besides what people already said, people do fall in love and marry quickly sometimes in the real world too. Sometimes with very little interaction before that. That is especially true in extreme situations like those in the story.
Agreed.
If you follow the story, they're stuck in this seemingly impossible to finish game, and if you're defeated, you die in real life. I'd say circumstances were certainly extreme, never knowing if you'll be PKed or killed by some epic mob.
anime basically fast-forwards the relationship a bit
They had almost a year and couple of months acquaintance.
Also ep2 cuts out their real first encounter in a cave where a paralyzed Asuna is rescued by Kirito, invited to a farm/inn (shown in the manga above) before heading out VS Illfang
Still, time skips does not make for excuses of what you can't write.
"Oh I don't know how to develop the interactions of these characters, let's just time skip and say many things happen between them which I can't say for sure what happened" is a lame and convenient author's excuse. It wouldn't be so bad if Kawahara didn't fill the entire story with plot conveniences like this.
It was three episodes to you but remember, time was still advancing. There are months that we didn't see. It's more a problem with the timeline than anything.
Any word on those seemingly affordable figurines?
careful, they might explode
*looks at last pic*
Made in China... Like most everything else except Ikea stuff.
Not really. Most european industries still have their production in Morocco.
I love sword art online. It was a great and nerdy anime! XD
kill urself fucking brony
: D
Must be a furry.
Well, we can't please them all. XD If he or she only knew.
id rather die than become a furry or brony like u fags
The plot and story are mediocre at best so turn it into fap material.
This is how the anime was supposed to be if they didnt skip it
It was fap material even before the anime come out. They just cut out that chapter.
So, the correction would go as: SAO creators noticed the obvious reality that the anime is shallow and generic, so they will just stick to what made it the best sold light novel of 2012, that being fanservice..? Hm, sounds about accurate. Accurate and a recurring theme in a lot of anime lately, by the way...
I don't see it. Someone takes a shower?
Sankaku sure is late on this news...
I feel that the Anime should have killed off the "filler" episodes (2 or 3? through to 8 or 9?) Have those as OAV's stating when they happened.
The Anime if fillers are skipped, progresses WAY too fast out of the initial thing that got me personally hooked.
1, 2 ... floor 7x's ... wait what?
I feel the months leading up to several of the fillers, would have made WAY better fillers - they could have made SAO (saga) last a full season, then do the resque saga (Altheim) in a second season along with the Guns.
Shit art online
I see back and forth in the comments. Is this series actually worth reading/watching or not because I was gaining interest after bothering to watch it for the first time on Adult Swim the other night .
