The latest impressive piece to emerge from the forges of fandom does so quite pointedly, for it is a replica of Edward Elric’s famous spear from Full Metal Alchemist, with the creators helpfully providing a video detailing its manufacture.
The spear was forged by Tony Swatton and his crew, who have worked with weaponsmithing for numerous years – they also possess a YouTube channel and a video series (“Man at Arms”) involving the creation of iconic weaponry from movies, games and otherwise.
The spear, as well as the creation process in intricate detail:
The spear is clearly an impressive piece – but whether such a creation will have any impact on current cosplay standards seems sadly doubtful.

I enjoy watching him create weapons from different shows. I cant help but laugh when thinking about the buster sword they made from Final Fantasy and how they had to have 2 people to wield it.
Really awesome and major props to these guys!! Unfortunately since it's made of metal, I highly doubt it will be allowed at a convention any time soon. (Safety procedures and all...)
Actually it just won't be allowed inside convention grounds. They can still take outdoor photo shoots with it.
Well, when it's that sharp, they may not even allow that. If they are dulled, then yeah, it would probably be ok.
They almost got it right.
there are parts of the design that look like Edwards spear, but some of the more jagged areas aren't there.
i'd say this is about 70%-80% accurate.
I guess the man knows the limitation of the materials and knows what is possible/practical for a weapon intended to be used and not just for show. Maybe making it 100% accurate would result in a lot of thin pieces that would break or bend after a few cuts.
Some of the other replicas they have made are pretty close to the source material, but the more fantasy-like weapons with a lot of spikes and fancy shapes always seem to require a little simplification to make them practical
He seems to take creative liberty on quite a few of the replicas he makes.
Like brown Buster Sword?
The Buster Sword simply got rusted.
Or, he's lazy and doesn't get paid enough to actually replicate it properly.
Lazy? I'm sorry but a man who procures actual meteorites to use in Sokka's meteor sword rather than opting for staining steel black is anything but lazy. Give the man credit where credit is due.
Who?
Let's see you do better, jackass.
Not gonna lie, I thought they were going to make it have an electricity effect too xD...
Kill yourself.
I would so use this weapon in a zombie apocalypse.
Wow, damn how alchemy would seem so useful. I can't imagine the amount of effort it took to make spear. It would like to see that spear in action more.
I especially like Sokkas Meteor Sword, Leonas Zenith Blade and Gimlis Bearded Axe :3
was just watching a few of this guy's vids yesterday....the sword of omens was pretty cool.
The best weapon this dude made was the "meteor sword" of Soka (Avatar series). He even got metal from a real meteorite!
"Space sword!"
Whats the point of going through the trouble of creating it if you aren't going to do it the same?
If you ever even bothered watching the first few seconds of the video you would know that its because he does it for a hobby?
