monpiece-girls-8

Monster musume fans look to be overjoyed and enraged in equal measure with the news that Compile Heart’s PSV card ’em up Monster Monpiece is being released internationally – but that due to their “strong sexual nature” a large number of monster girls have been dumped to protect the fragile minds of western gamers from corruption.

monpiece-girls-1

The game is just too sexy for the barbarian masses, localisers Idea Factory say in an apologetic missive (although they do at least provide detailed disclosure):

Idea Factory International, Inc. would like to inform fans and prospective users of Monster Monpiece that we have made the decision to remove several Monster Girl images from the North American and European versions of Monster Monpiece.

The gameplay, game system, and storyline are fully intact and Idea Factory International strives to localize and publish Idea Factory titles with the same content as their Japanese releases.

Here is the list of Monster Girls whose images have been limited to that of their level 1, 2, or 3 evolution form due to the strong sexual nature of the card images: Vampire, Kraken, Goblin, Cockatrice, Kobold, Skeleton, Titania, Bahamut, Fia, Brownie, Pegasus, Mandragora, Mau Sibau, Rafflesia, Death Scorpion, Phantom, and Tengu.

We fully understand that there are needs and demands for the complete version of these games.

Our intention and motivation is to offer Idea Factory titles in a form that is as close as possible to the Japanese versions.

This was a tough decision, but we would greatly appreciate your understanding and support.

Much in the way of understanding or support seems unlikely, but those willing to overlook this can get the title in download form sometime in the spring.

Some examples of the sort of thing western Monpiece fans may be missing out on:

Ah well, I'm not interested in social card games either way. But I can say that this decision of Idea Factory just strengthens my dislike of such games as a whole.

As for monster girls in general... I've already preordered Vanadis' next eroge title '聖もんむすFestival!! ~お祭りだよ全員集合!~', which comes out by the end of February. No doubtly a better money investment than this social card game for the psp.

The fact is, they probably do wish they could release this game untouched and just translated, but that would require western society to change. I just think they're afraid of ending up scapegoats for the um... "pedobear hunters"?

It actually doesn't require any such thing.

They could have released it untouched and it wouldn't have been an issue (ESRB would still be M and PEGI would be 16) and people will still bitch at them about "sexism" and what not whether the self-censor the game or not.

Also, Agarest Wars 2 had a feature where you can massage a loli in her underwear. That was released uncensored in the US by Aksys Games and it never had an issue.

So instead they risk nobody buying their crippled game. It's lose-lose.

    Comment by Anonymous

I've never seen any evidence of people mass boycotting videogames over similar content removal. Maybe I'm just missing something, but has any game actually suffered poor sales as a result of censorship?

But putting that aside, I don't see how this is a lose-lose. At the very least, they are securing access to a wider audience through being able to sell their games in traditionally sexually repressive regions without too much trouble from the moral guardians. At very least it's a win-lose for them.

    Comment by Anonymous
    14:14 22/01/2014 # ! Neutral (0)

    13:43

That is because the boycott never been done in large scale, just many different people not buying the game because the content was altered. There is no petition, no forum or no news, just different people on their own, not buying the game.

Also, for most part the censorship was a result from the pressure coming from some western family/feminist oriented organization, in which they can and will tear inside out the company's image, so its not the company's fault for that questionable decision. The boycott only worsening the situation, and is never a solution for this problem.

    Comment by Anonymous

Nope, there is no evidence of any kind of boycott doing anything but increasing the sales of targeted merchandise. The people boycotting were never going to purchase the item in the first place but the boycott puts the product in the news giving it free exposure and peeking peoples curiosity.

You know that western feminists and mainstream media would've had a heyday with something like this. How dare you sexualize the female body! There's nothing overtly sexual about it! ... lol, what a joke. They probably would've taken it a step further and threw around accusations of glorifying child pornography, or something ridiculous like that.

Since you "rub" the cards to power them up (and erase clothing), they felt they need to do that.

Looks like the decent colelction of pictures you can find this or that way on enough webpages - N i can't even determine the monsters for most (the easiest would probably be the Golem, Dragon and Tarantula).

The boycott (which I'd join if I'd own a PSV ...) won't be noticed anyway since the expected sales are probably small as is - thus not warranting the hassle to make different versions and apply them to the retarded national media controll institutes.

Hail state-controll, allthough here it's an institue of the "public domain" independent from the state (yeah right) <.<

This title is rather misleading. These cards are not banned. They are being selectively edited by the company porting the game. C'mon. I played Dante's Inferno, L.A. Noire, and God of War. All of these games have all out nudity (I mean DI had the end boss with a monster swingin' donkey cock). I think western gamers can handle some monster girlies.

I call xenophobic bias; Japanese games, and only Japanese games, are the ones dealing with all the bullshit. Hell, I was having a Twitter conversation some time back about how there was apparently a bigger controversy over the Sorceress in Dragon's Crown than the entirety of GTAV.

You know what makes this even sadder? Japan already had their console/portable games neutered to begin with. Seriously, aside from how toned down their eroge ports are, I don't think Sony or Nintendo is allowing them to show so much as a single nipple if they want to sell it in their own region. That's a pretty far cry from Sony International's standards for God of War, where a sex mini-game is perfectly fine.

    Comment by Anonymous
    14:48 22/01/2014 # ! Neutral (0)

I believe the people who attack Dragon Crown is being cautious to attack the bigger companies, since they have bigger support from fans and able to do something about the attack, hence the attack aimed towards Japanese games since they are niche in west.

I also suspect they also choose to attack gamers, not Hollywood or other big industries aside gaming, because gamer have the least protection of all and quit frankly, is more susceptible to manipulation (there's plenty of people with communication/social problem among gamers).

Anyway, its really odd since the most western do accept the partial nudity and porn, its plenty in all media, TV, news, song, movie, show, pretty much everything, and actress do nude shot all the time.. so why there are still people keep attacking the sex theme in game?

Is there some sort of prejudice that games is for kids, so it should not contain adult material? Do they think less about adult gamer or simply do not aware that we exist? Or the real reason is like I point out before, because the attackers know gamers are the "easy meat", hence the repeated attack towards gaming industry to spread their own propaganda?

I've observe how these people comment and know the discussion pattern, and know well about their view and mentality. They simply is very biased and narrow minded. They get very defensive and go nut whenever criticized by others..
