Comment on Outrage at Kennedy’s “Stop Killing Dolphins!” Tweet by Anonymous:

“We all know Dolphins are endangered”

Continuing to repeat this does not make it true. In fact, leaving whales aside, the dolphin species in question are all categorized as “least concern” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). In other words, they aren’t even threatened, let alone endangered. The whale population data is more in debate (partly for political reasons) and the whale species commonly involved in drives (killers and false killers, and pilot whales) are officially listed as “data deficient,” but are reasonably common (and taken in much smaller numbers than the dolphins, anyway).

The larger whale species, which are taken at sea, not in drives, are all regulated by the International Whaling Commission, which sets strict quotas, and restricts hunting to non-endangered species as well.
