Chinese authorities have apparently resorted to broadcasting the sunrise on giant TVs in public places as it is now invisible to the naked eye thanks to some of the densest smog ever.
Beijing smog was so bad the government warned vulnerable citizens to stay indoors lest they be poisoned, and visibility was barely that of a murky pool:

The silent hill other world is in china?
lol 10/10!!!!
It's a Walmart sunrise!
Precursor to the Helghast.
I'm glad I visited China in 2008 w2hen they were still trying to pretend they were a modern country.
(yes, I don't consider any country 'modern' if they allow their environment to get that bad.)
Well the United Kingdom is modern and they had the infamous London Fog, which was as bad, or even worst than the one here in China.
yeah right. at least that fog is not poisonous you fking idiot
The London Fog was nothing but smog.
It was a yellow smog that lead to lung cancer and other illness that killed est. 1000 people a year.
But that said, this is 100 years past.
It shows that industrialization is a mixed blessing, though. China should just outsource their dirty industries to poorer countries like the West and clean themselves up.
That's why China is pouring resources into developing Africa, the next industrial waste dumping ground!
You don't know fuck about what that fog was or the cause behind it, huh?
The sunrise is a 10 second clip from a tourism ad for Shandong province, in China’s northeast. It is not the government's doing nor does it relate the time of day.
The picture does highlight Beijing's pollution problem in a very powerful way, but the stories made up around it are mostly false.
Besides the taxi's almost every vehicle is better then mine..
I'm sad..
No they aren't, they're probably made in China. They might look nicer, but they're held together with the congealed blood and crushed dreams of the children who made them.
Not really as they're the Chinese model which usually means no functional safety equipment, puny engines, and questionable construction.
Ah, true enough, I forgot that they're probably made out of garbage and prone to explosions.
Wait till they televise SHAFT or KyoAni.
oh wait...the actual sunrise?! oh, my bad.
I absolutely don't understand why would anyone live in Beijing nowadays. Sometimes there's more smog, sometimes there less, but it's always above norm. I understand that people have a job there, a home, e.t.c but this shit is literally killing you, eating away at years you have left in this world. Is it worth any money?
I would literally turture and kill any CEO of any factory responsible for this, without any mercy.
You mean the CEOs that made these people so much better off? Yeah, kill them.
Mao and Stalin were good, but this for a great genocide is pretty damn good.
Soylant green its made outta people! Its made outta people!
Soon...
Though not even Rumia would eat Chinese soylent green because of the amount of pollution in it.
Chinese pees; they're people!
Finally a gaming tv I wouldn't mind playing split screen on.
Plot twist: It's horizontal split-screen
Even communists have to realize that this isn't good.
That looks more like a sunset than a sunrise, but whatevs, carry on.
That look like some kind of Dystopia Sci-fi Film.
that is what you get for only thinking about OWN benefit without being bother about their effect or responsibilities to others. Kiasu
This is actually super depressing.
What sucks is that Chink pollution has now migrated across the pacific and is now polluting the U.S. west coast.
Oh well, the chinks are getting the worst of it. Their coastal cities are over 20 times the recommended healthy level of industrial pollutants. Over there you need a fucking respirator if you want a decent shot at not getting a lung disease before you're 50.
So in many ways it echoes the kill ratio of the Korean War: 1 dead American for every 20 or 30 dead chinks.
China. Not even Nurgle cultists want to live there.
Roll D100 sanity loss just for entering China.
Must have used infrared cameras to even see the sun for that broadcast.
and that why China is expanding their territories to make way for their people to live outside of their mainland because they claim to be or bragging that they are a super-powered nation nowadays yet they couldn't keep their places clean.
Soon the rich will be living in houses like The Jetsons & owning flying cars, while the poor are forced to slave away, in the toxic smog bellow.
China - the only place where everything but the sun explodes
Instead of fixing the problem...
China quality sunrise.
Why is it like this in china?
It's because they don't have the same emissions laws that the rest of the world does. What laws they do have are weakly enforced.
They'll have to explain to future generations why it was good for the economy when they can't drink the water, can't breathe the air, can't eat wild foods, and can't farm the land.
Not being able to drink the water is already true for much of urban China.
They won't have to explain anything as nothing will be left alive if they keep living in conditions like that
If they can manage to abduct enough women to produce a next generation you mean.
It's because their leaders are commies.
I'd say they're more like the pigs at the end of Animal Farm. They've figured out that wealth from capitalism is a good thing but at the same time, they retain the advantages and control of communism; at least for themselves.
Everyone is equal but some are more equal than others.
Any commie who's poor and hasn't given away all their money to charity is either a disingenuous or incompetent commie.
hahha amerifag detected.
That's what they say. Any commie who is filthy rich, is not a real commie.
Yet no one had a problem when the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, and the United States emitted tons of pollutants for a longer period of time during their economic development phase.
But less overall.
Welcome to Corporate China.
Maybe because back then no one realized how destructive any of this shit really was, idiot.
Lol you really think they were as bad as this? Horry shit.
You are completely wrong. 1n 1952 London had a smog event that lead to thousands of deaths and a new era of pollution regulation. It was also caused by coal smoke and auto exhust. The first environmental regulations started in 1956, and the last bad smog event was in there was one more serious smog episode in 1962.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Smog for details.
And communism is suppose to be a more caring philosophy too HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.....
Every single country was awful at environmentalism until not so long ago (some still are).
This has nothing to do with that.. private corporate power can harm the environment in a large scale just as much or more. China's economic practices have shifted so much since the late 70s, you cant take them as a representation of a country running on Marxist doctrine anymore.
Soviet Russia was awful at environmentalism.
Because they burn toxic plastics and import foreign cars.
