China “Televises Sunrise As Smog Is So Bad”

sun-rises-on-china-in-2014-1

Chinese authorities have apparently resorted to broadcasting the sunrise on giant TVs in public places as it is now invisible to the naked eye thanks to some of the densest smog ever.

Beijing smog was so bad the government warned vulnerable citizens to stay indoors lest they be poisoned, and visibility was barely that of a murky pool:

yes they want sheeple born there, ones that would walk by a dying little girl or an elderly couple forced from there homes and not do or say a damn thing. I feel sorry for the Chinese people trying to make a difference only to have the majority remain ignorant and stupid.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

Scammers are smarter in China(and possibly rest of world) than in Amerika, for example.

Dying little girl? Call ambulance and her "parents" would stick to you forever and rob you of money.

Same with elderly couple; you have no idea whether they are actually unfortunate people or are planning something sinister.

Maybe if China was lucky enough to avoid war and occupation and perhaps gain tons of benefits from two world wars; things would be different.

Of course people living the easy life either in Amerika or one of Amerika's bitch countries would see things in black and white and call people ignorant/stupid...while they are the ones who are actually ignorant/stupid.

Elderly are starving on the streets in all but the wealthiest welfare countries in the world.
As for the little girl who was run over, the car didn't notice it, more damning is the lack of a response, but probably people were afraid to get involved due to litigious consequences in the past.

Rapidly Industrializing tends to do that. London was called the "smog city"

But of course, this is not what the author is trying to lead people into thinking. Along with the rest of the Anti-China articles, is aimed to incite "China is bad" feeling. Coincidentally glorifying all of Japan's Otaku culture in other articles.

This is a testament to how much bullshit we are willing to put up with nowadays instead of overthrow horrendous infrastructure, by force if necessary. Congress too, for that matter. It really does bring up the question, when is enough enough in modern times?

Why would Congress have a say, this is in China. Chinese government does not care as long as the money is rolling in, so they can build an army while claiming other nations airspace.

I'm not saying it's not really smoggy in Beijing, I'm not saying it's not dark, and I'm not saying modern China isn't polluted as hell, but I'm a bit curious as to what the camera settings were on the first two shots, specifically did they turn the exposure compensation to minus two (re: the darkest setting on most cameras) to accentuate the gloom. Also, what time of day was it? Just because there's a sunrise on the screen doesn't mean it's exactly sunrise, it could be just before dawn or just after dusk for all I know.

The third picture seems a little more representative as to what the smog is probably actually like, as it seems that the photographer didn't adjust the exposure and it's unambiguously daytime.

You can probably assume based on the darkness around, and extrapolating that that's kind of what it looks like on a rainy morning that it is in fact morning. The latter pictures are later in the day compared to them more than likely.

Which may make sense if the source for the story didn't come from the Daily Mail in the UK, and if it also didn't say the exactly same thing about the pollution in china.

Also, are you blind? Seriously. Go back to jerking off on pictures of Mao you morons.

It's because they don't have the same emissions laws that the rest of the world does. What laws they do have are weakly enforced.

They'll have to explain to future generations why it was good for the economy when they can't drink the water, can't breathe the air, can't eat wild foods, and can't farm the land.

This has nothing to do with that.. private corporate power can harm the environment in a large scale just as much or more. China's economic practices have shifted so much since the late 70s, you cant take them as a representation of a country running on Marxist doctrine anymore.

You are completely wrong. 1n 1952 London had a smog event that lead to thousands of deaths and a new era of pollution regulation. It was also caused by coal smoke and auto exhust. The first environmental regulations started in 1956, and the last bad smog event was in there was one more serious smog episode in 1962.

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Smog for details.
