Final Fantasy VI “Square Enix Quality”

Final Fantasy fans have been busily debating the merits of Square Enix’s suitably enhanced port of Final Fantasy VI to lucrative and reassuringly non-HD Android platform.
The game, available in English and Japanese amongst other languages, is based on the 1994 SNES original but dumps its pixelated designs in favour of new designs – though they are still by Kazuko Shibuya, the artist who designed the originals.
The reaction amongst Japanese gamers looks mixed to say the least:
“Looks cheap as hell.”
“Keeping it pixelated would have been a million times better.”
“It is forgivable I suppose.”
“Looks like something made with an RPG maker…”
“At least we can make fun of it.”
“Pixel art really has a different feel to it.”
“It’s a lot cuter now though!”
“I could cry comparing this to FF5…”
“The mismatch between the retro environments and the new character graphics is overpowering.”
“I hope it is not buggy rubbish like FF5 was.”

If Square Enix wants money they should just make a proper HD remake of FFVII. Dumbasses.
No...they really shouldn't. All they can and will do is fuck it up. I really wish they'd stop fucking with the classics but look at them to see what they did right to make them so loved (once upon a time) and see all the things they are doing wrong now.

VII was garbage, not that I'd expect the JRPG America's casuals to first cut their teeth on would know or acknowledge this.
A "proper" FFVII remake would cost too much to call it a money maker (words taken from SE itself). Sure, they would cash in like crazy at first, but once the hype from nostalgia fanboys wanes, their numbers would plummet to the ground, just as it has happened before.
See, there is a reason why economics are universary-level studies: internet randoms cannot define it in a 2-line comment. It would be cool if it was, but... the world is not that simple.
Clearly, you are far more aware of the costs associated with game design and the demand for one of the most requested videogame remakes ever. Thank you, Mr. Not-Internet Random.
That would cost them even more because they'd have to make things from scratch. That's why they started making sequels to the numbered FFs so they could reuse stuff. :(

Regardless of quality, mobile games will never get my money.
Graphics don't matter unless it interferes with gameplay or is vastly disconnected from the tone of the game. These are just increased graphics in the same style as the original so people are stupid to complain unless they charge a ridiculous amount.
Screw all the haters, I'm going to buy the best FF game (again) so I can have it on my phone and replay one of the best stories and have some of the best characterization ever put into a game.

Those pseudo-3D renders of the characters aren't even from this remake, I remember them from the manual for Final Fantasy Anthology on the PS1

Why not upgrade the gameplay and the graphics, add-in some scenes with full CG graphics enhanced with latest technology, and a new soundtrack to boot. Not only recycled Final Fantasy...
Because money. All that you listed is super expensive. Granted they should have tried better, but what you said for a game that wouldn't sell as much ( esp on mobile market) would not be able to recoup the dev costs.

strike 1 = no voice acting.
strike 2 = meh visuals.
strike 3 = nothing interesting.
therefore, i will avoid the final fantasy franchise and it's iterations like a plague except for final fantasy 15 which seems to have nothing to do with final fantasy and thank god!!!!!!!!!

Mark my words: FF15 is going to be the worst of them all and will make FF13 look like a gem of a game.
We already know FFXV will be a huge steaming turd, all they did was STEAL from The Last Story and turn everyone visual kai. Which means there's bound to a brooding main character, a crying shota and many more generic characters.

At the risk of being overpowered by naysayers , I really like the redesign.
It is, to my mind, both cleaner and cuter than the original.
Makes me wish I owned something android compatible.
The game was not meant to be cute. In the game's story you are trying to overthrow a totalitarian government taking over the world and enslaving magical beings, and then survive and defeat essentially a god in an apocalyptic world. "Cute" has nothing to do with the game.
