The latest marvel of Chinese engineering to be doing the rounds online are some of the ultra-slim buildings of Shanghai, earning such high praise as “looking just like a movie set” and “being even thinner than Japan’s.”
Sadly the Chinese media have not seen fit to investigate just what is going on inside such edifices:

I was wondering how they got so thin
straight out of the 2-D world
well, land is expensive and lives are cheap.
Thinner by Stephen King
your mom's slender!
I think this looks pretty cool , I wonder what it looks like inside
Inside is an alternate dimensions where they fight aliens and save the world.
Actually they rent them out to rats & cockroaches.
the 2-D world, of course
Maybe... It's bigger on the inside?
That's a TARDIS. It's bigger on the inside!
North Korean already done that before, it's called "Propaganda Village" located near Panmunjom <-- (correct me if i didn't spell right) border with south korea, from outside it's looks like a great and prosperous village with apartment, nice houses, etc.
but in reality, it is just a diorama, the building are paper thin like a billboard, everything else is empty.
yes, but i assume people are supposed to actually live in these
But those weren't intended for actual habitation. There's no propaganda about these buildings, they are actual homes for actual people.
You call that home? A simple fart in there is enough to explode the whole thing!
a single kick to the building's center of gravity will do the job
It looks more like a domino in the wind if you ask me.
This must be chinas way of saying we'll deal with our overpopulation problems once and for all
Woe be unto them if they get invaded by rustlers, cut throats, murderers, bounty hunters, desperados, mugs, pugs, thugs, nitwits, halfwits, dimwits, vipers, snipers, con men, Indian agents, Mexican bandits, muggers, buggerers, bushwhackers, hornswogglers, horse thieves, bull dykes, train robbers, bank robbers, ass-kickers, shit-kickers, and Methodists!
Chinese buildings...no, ANYTHING chinese don't need any sort of assistance to explode. It just happens.
HORNSWOGLERS... MEL BROOKS RIDES AGAIN!
Wait, you mean those are actual homes? I thought it was literally just a shop-front with some balconies above it.
I really can't see these as anything more than a prop display. I mean does China not have wind storms?
A russian invention to be precise: Potemkin villages.
The reality is so baffled that these building don't implodes.
Pretty much, but it's debatable if China is dumb enough to think these are actually able to be used.
The foundation on these buildings is just asking for them to collapse one way or another, for show or not.
if China is dumb
if?
honestly?
I thought that was proven long ago
chinese apartments: amerifat tenants need not apply
Chinese civilization: Non-insects need not apply.

I think it's cute you think anyone besides the Chinese would want to live in China. Mind-stunningly stupid, but cute.
Maybe in the big, rich people quarter in China, but I bet not even Chinese want to live in this tiny house if they have the option.
I think it's cute that you think the Chinese want to live in China.
You would be surprised. But it's useless to argue, you obviously know nothing, just spouting nonsense.
Fun fact: Even though the overall obesity level in China is less than 5%, due to the country's massive population that still means that a full 1/5 of the world's obese population live in China (approximately 200 million), mostly in urban areas where fast food is predominant.
So while China has a much, much, MUCH healthier ratio, its population of obese citizens still manages to double that of the US just due to population bloat.
5% of the China population is not 200 million, but 70 million. So, a bit more than 10% of the world's obese population, and about half as many as in just the US.
"Look at how well China is doing!" -Nobody
The US, UK... Everyone does it. Even in Palo Alto they have this type of thing. Is just city planners want to make the place look bit nicer.
Everyone does it, yes. More so in other countries than the US and the UK. Laos is a fucking hole outside of the tourist areas.
But this literally looks like someone said "Ok, put that sign there. Good. Take the pictures and let's go." It looks near uninhabitable. I could be wrong, it could be a lovely area that's just perfect for students on a budget. But it's so...blatantly fake looking.
I never seen a building like this in the US or UK before. And if it was built for habitation, they wouldn't be very likely to get away with it for very long...
I don't understand why everyone is sooooo surprised. Is like having a bunch of 10 year old on the internet.
Yeah, I've never heard of this sort of thing anywhere in the US. Our small apartments are studio apartments, and those at least have three dimensions to them.
top kek
The closest the United States has ever come do that was when they built an artificial town for bomb testing. Outside of that and old west movie prop towns, nothing like that exists. America is far too capitalist driven for such falsities.
There is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flatiron_building
I live in Vancouver Canada area. I have not seen a single building like this even in the low income or ghetto areas. Even the homeless shelters we have here are better then this.
I live in Southern California. I have personally seen many examples of this kind of construction.
ihops occasionally have false second floors.
And a lot of nice plazas/shopping areas have false facades to create a classy european/asian city atmosphere.
Oh, and it definitely passes the capitalism test. I love having a nice out door meal under the stars surrounded by the impressive "architecture" without paying the insane prices you would if you were in the center of Paris.
Oh and I believe it was New York, New York in Las Vegas also has a rather impressive false facade.
Actually everyone's been saying that since 1949
And the best part? They don1t even have an idea that what's the problem with that.
When it will explode? Since it looks like a movie background crap I hope Michael Bay would consider this cheap building demolish for his film esp the Transformer movie.
Still ragging on those movies? How long has it been since they've been in theaters? Goddamn, grow up.
It still a crap, and serves as reminder to Bay on how to make better movie.
Transformers G1 is worse. Take off the nostalgia glasses.
Bay directed Sleepy Hollow, which had a windmill full of grain spontaneously explode into a massive fiery pyrotechnics display.
We will rag on Micheal Bay for this sort of stuff FOREVER. Because he DESERVES it.
Houses explode only in USA. Read news.
