SAO II Announced: “Gun Gale Online”

SAO fans finally have confirmation of a new season for 2014, by way of an ever so brief announcement shoved in at the end of the Extra Edition swimwear/recap special.
That the new anime will play out in the gunplay-centric world of Gun Gale Online was confirmed as well, again not at all surprising – though a relief to anyone fearing it might somehow be pushed back into 2015.

Hard to see the point without the threat of real-life death. Maybe we will get a .hack//sign or Log Horizon style "stuck in the game" but that does not have the same impact.

i doubt Reki Kawahara even has the ability to write a story half as good as .hack//sign. Though .hack//sign is not as much as a "stuck in a game" anime but more of a mystery and detective series.
he has the ability, the problem is the SAO novel was first written when he was pratically a kid ,many years ago, and is now being rewritten to have adolescents/teenagers like it.If he were to change his style to the Toaru type i think a nice NEW work could come out.
True, but the problem is that his main characters Kirito/Asuna (the two characters people care about the most) are developed and established as untouchable and invincible main characters and a pair, meaning that no real threat can pose for them, and i doubt Reki has any intention to kill/mortally wound them.
If he were to go for .hacksign route and suddenly have them go suddenly develop mental problems like Tsukasa did is odd and unfeasible.
But that applies to the SAO universe, im sure he can write something decent if he wrote a completely new story with a new cast.
I hear Asuna won't even be in this one. Or anyone else from the previous games for that matter.
.hack//sign is only good for hipsters, my friend. It was an awful and boring series.

It's a fact that the story rail roads from here on out. Mother's Rosario is OK but the drama in it was way too forced & it just made the mother look like a fool. Then we have everything else after that - UGH - that's what Reki is writing now. It qualifies as milking & no one is taking it seriously at all.

The plot and premise are awful.
In fact, it's already been done in the first half of the original SAO season.
Then kirito = girl for fanservice.
It's just......repeating the same scenario for the sake of milking the series.

wow did they not learn there lesson from the second half of SAO? even most fans of the series hate the later episodes and refuse to acknowledge it.

Of course Kirito has to have a cool-unique like dual wield or overly-powerful illusions that was used just once.
Now he gets a lightsaber in a world for guns.
A lightsaber which anyone in that game can use, but which everyone else thought was useless because it takes skill to block bullets with it.

It doesn't matter because in the end it boils down to "only Kirito is able to (effectively) use this (very typical shounen-ish and yet still advertised as unique)sword fighting style and become incredibly OP in comparison to every other players for no inadequate reasons other than because he's the shounen Gary Stu protagonist"
It's like trying to justify that Ichiko's 500th transformation would be unique from the previous ones if he can access his powers from his gall bladder and summon Pokeballs from his sword, it won't, it's the same old tired recycled pattern from an author who cannot pull off anything better than repetitive cliches.
