Tales of Zestiria Announced: “2015” “PS3” “…”

The latest Tales “mothership” title has been unveiled in the form of Tales of Zestiria, apparently due in 2015 as the 20th anniversary “Tales” title – and for the PS3 of course…
Whether the “20th anniversary” title can manage a release before 2015 (the series originator Tales of Phantasia was released in 1995) is not yet clear, but enthusiasm for the announcement seems already to have been tempered by disappointment at having to wait for a presumed “complete edition” for the PS4 in order to get graphics which are any better than those available by its 10th anniversary.
At the current rate of one mothership title every 2-3 years, this may well mean the first PS4 Tales title will be ready by 2018 – in time for the franchise’s 25th anniversary at least, and still better going than certain other popular RPG franchises of late.

Ied rather the game be complete and have a damn good story like all the rest of the tales games then to have a pos game on the ps4 with 'amazing graphics' and nothing else like everything else.
LOL since when do Tales games have good stories at all
Tales has a livelier world/story than any FF I've played, and I've played them all but 2 of them.
@15:32
You played the wrong tales games. Try Phantasia for SNES/PSX

FF sucks metrosexual cock.
Granted I've only played Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Vesperia, but the worlds and stories fall far from the quality of the FF games pre-13.
Symphonia had a good one. Hasn't come up to that level since then though.
tales of destiny
I think Xillia 2 gives it a run for its money.
1995
Agreed. Phantasia is still my favourite when it comes to about the story. And I liked the Abyss more than Symphonia
I swear, there should be law in Japan
forcing all JRPG developers to do as
Hideo Baba has done with ToZ (worldwide
release). Maybe not simultaneous worldwide
release but worldwide release is preferable
than waiting and guessing if a localization
will happen.
God-Tier if you force releases as
simultaneous worldwide with dual-audio.
Just because some people are too lazy to learn Japanese?
Nobody needs to force the Japanese developers, instead lazy anime fans needs to be forced to learn Japanese, and the world would be much better...
Hmm, I could do that... oh wait, I know, I'll just buy someone else's game. They can go ahead and not localize their game, there are more videogames being released that I could reliably play as it is.
but the US HAS some good rpg!
....
....
....
wait...
it's coming to me...
it's getting closer...!
aw, i lost it...
You can always go and play shit american FPS games if you want, and don't have to whine about jrpgs not localized...
What's dual audio? Chinese-japanese? Spanish-Japanese? Let's get real, there are more people who don't give a shit about english dub in their japanese games... Mainly because enlish is not their mother language.
Preferable to have original (Japanese) audio and English text.
It's how i watch my anime, been watching english subs for so long i read them subconsciously that it almost feels like i know Japanese, lets face it, over here we have overweight bad actors voicing our games and anime, they're always over the top and cartoony. Give me Japanese voices and English text any day.
Nah, I prefer Japanese dub and English sub because Japanese dub is better than English dub in general, Japanese dub is more expressive, and I tend to prefer an art in its original form. In English dub, sometimes the content get changed and the original message, is lost.
I also prefer to watch an American movie/sitcom in English, which due to the same reason-- originality.
this discussion is now about anime subs vs dubs
Because dubs are fucking garbage.
People bash Nintendo and MS for killing all support to their previous generation consoles.
On the other hand, Sony is a failure because it still supports the previous generation and doesn't want to screw its consumers and itself by betting everything on a system without games to sell it after the hype dies.
Who gives a shit if it is on the newest system or not. Doesn't mean it won't be good plus more people have the older system.
Cool stuff. I hope they go back to something that resembles Tales of Graces' combat-style. That one was perfect.
Still too slow. Having played Tales of Abyss on emulator at twice the normal speed was so frantic and great, Xillia felt like walking underwater. Graces was better than Xillia at least.
The hell? Xillia has much faster combat than Abyss. You pretty much have to run Abyss at 2x speed to match it.
Either way, I'm hype for this game. It'll be forever before it reaches the West though, since Bamco effing hates us.
Hideo Baba is the new Playstation employee.
I still hope the occidental schedule to be like this:
2014 - ToS (PS3 ver.) + ToX2
2015 - ToV (PS3 ver.) + ToZ
I might get this game when I have enough money. Currently, I don't have enough money to buy this game.

Tales of Hearts R getting English release.
I honestly wish that developers would just do their releases on PC. That way, a simple hardware update would usually allow for a reasonable improvement in graphics for those who wish to invest.
I really can't stand the 720p on PS3. Too many great games that are simply not available on other consoles are plagued by PS3s pathetic limitations. For example, Star Ocean 4 has the kind of engine that benefits greatly from a higher resolution and frame rate, but the PS3 simply doesn't have the hardware to run it better.
It befuddles me how cell phones and PCs can be updated every year and be backward compatible, but it seems that consoles lack any particular standards for development on both the hardware or software end that would normally allow backward compatibility.
The PS2 was the worst example of this, where the PS1 did not require a frame rate limiter for it's software developers, so any efforts to build the PS2 processor with a backward-compatible micro-architecture would have been wasted anyway. Similar issues are why the PS3 isn't backward compatible as well without emulation or a secondary processor, despite the fact that they all have PowerPC type processors.
Perhaps the PS5 will be backward compatible now that they're going the x86-64 route with consoles again, but I think for various reasons that important backward compatibility features like a resolution increase or frame rate limiter on such a console will be possible for every title without game developer cooperation, making it once again pointless due to lack of fixed standards from Sony's end.
Honestly, why doesn't Sony just start selling 'Vaio' PCs as it's next-gen consoles? They could even come pre-installed with a steam-like Playstation program that runs on Windows start-up. I'm sure there's some money-driven reason, but consoles hurt the end-user in the long run.
What? 2015? This should be on Wii U and ps4 as well.
Dude by 2018 we're gonna have PS5's and Zestiria's gonna end up some "old school bargain bin" title. They should just do it now for the PS4.
At least Final Fantasy is a multiplataform game.
Dear Namco Bandai, I would like a Tales game for the PlayStation 4. You know, the system millions of people have just invested in?
You really expect Japanese companies to be able to keep up with the insanely high costs for next gen games? Only the biggest companies are able to afford to make next gen games.. I expect Japanese games will stay on PS3 for at least another year or two as standard, or just move to Vita development instead.
Indies seem to be making next gen games just fine... And cheap!
yet they pulled off some of the greatest games of the last generation, restrictions increase creativity, ill play journey for the millionth time tonight before ever coming close to another drab dull GOW title or showy boring Uncharted
Yeah, indies make them too, but with significantly less variety and much shorter game time.
For indies, the ratio of graphical fidelity versus content is much, much more inverse than companies' due to budget and lack of manpower.
Except that Namco IS one of the biggest japanese companies.
Just do your homework BEFORE you post something THAT stupid.
Just because they are a big company, doesn't mean that they can always spend like Western companies do. Why don't you take your own advice of doing your homework and go look for sales count for most of Tales games to date and tell me if they can claim to have big profits with such figures if they spent any more than 100m USD.
Stiff animations that plague most ingame cutscenes, low and flat details in environments and character models, simplistic lighting and facial expressions. These don't matter if gameplay can make up for it, but they ARE hallmarks of a mid budget title at best.
No matter what you want to believe, Tales as a series is still no where near close to the popularity of FFs and Dragon Quest, and Namco has plenty more games that also need their own budget.
I agree with you. anime themed games are the most prevalent in japan (duh) and dont require alot of graphic's to be great. on the other hand, thats the only reason to play games like cod in america
Except that Namco Bandai IS making games for PS4... Like Mobile Suit Gundam and Tekken Revolution/x Street Fighter.
But I actually don't mind them staying on PS3... I'm not planning on getting PS4 anytime soon.
PS4 = 2 million
PS3 = 80 million
Plus people forget PS4 isn't even out in Japan yet, and Japan is known to be late adopters of new consoles as it is. They weren't really ready for a new system, so theres no reason for devs to try to make games for a system not many people will be buying yet.
Only 8 million of that 80 million were in Japan kid. Consoles are dead in Japan. This game was simply developed on console and will be ported to Vita right after it is released.
Only hairy barbarians make games for hardware that is less than 5 years old.
Dear Namco Bandai, I would like a Tales game that isn't an edited copy and paste story. " ____ helps a girl named _____ in trouble who may or may not have amnesia, or some special gift, or being chased by some group. Over the course of thier journey they discover that they have feelings for each other, the before mentioned girl gets kidnapped, and _____ has to save the world to get her back, or has to make a sacrifial discision to get her back, and everything works out in the end." "What about a title name? Ummm lets see "Tales of _____ia"
Try harder, not all Tales is like that.
And about the feeling between the two character, nothing is wrong with it. Romantic relationship is one thing fan seek in this genre.
Ever heard about fans shipping? It occur in all medium, be it TV Drama, Anime, manga, and games. Because people like to pair the character up.
