“The PS4 Really Is Hotter Than The Xbox One!”

The console wars are heating up to record temperatures with the release of both PS4 and Xbox One – quite literally, as comparisons of the amount of heat both consoles generate reveals a clear victory for the PS4.
As a follow-up to the previous thermographic photography of the PS4, the two consoles have been compared in moderately scientific fashion:

Both consoles aren't worth getting right now. So very many issues.
A rev 1.0 of any complex product usually is going to be bug ridden junk esp if it's been rushed and had last minute design changes.
I believe the first PS4 was to use an enhanced Cell but IBM shifted focus to the more general purpose Power 7 processor.
So this is their plan B or even plan C design.
Ha! When IBM dropped Cell from their Bladeservers it was all over. They never produced a Cell faster than 2.8GHz, while the Cell processor contained within PS3 was clocked at 3.2GHz. Intel Core2 based Xenon processors kicked it's teeth in.
Incorrect the Cell is far faster the Core2 Xenon.
The version Cell version of the software OpenGl renderer in Mesa was on average four time faster then the version compiled for a quad core Skull trail Xenon.
Even the Jaguar which pisses on the Core2 is 50% slower at SIMD then Cell but the programmable stream processors in the GPU more then offset this.
Now Jaguar's X86 units are collectively about 3 to 5 times faster then the PPE in Cell.
This should help lazy ass game ports run better if they at least put forth the effort to make them multi threaded.

I'm not talking about raw power, I'm talking SALES. Once the Core2 Xenon was released, it killed any foothold Cell powered Blades had. You stupid tech geek.
That's exceptionally unlikely, Cell is of different architecture, I suppose, Sony could emulate x86 on Cell but that sounds preposterous.

And the moral is, if you are to make a bugfree console, stick with tried and true technology, intead of just shoving in stat of the art prototypes and hope that it works. Apparently nintendo is the only one of the three that realises this.
The PS4 has an internal power supply, while the 360 has an external brick. Of course the PS4 is going to run hotter. It's still well within an acceptable range.
Still don't understand why folks buy launch day consoles when there is always some sort of issue.

It's worth wondering, but then again, if they weren't bought, no later, fixed versions would be made. They wouldn't make more if the initial batches still filled warehouses. Fortunately warranty will help the early buyers.

I think he meant GPU "shaders." The PS4 DOES have more of them; The PS4 has 1152 shaders, while the X1 only has 768.Anyone who builds PCs will tell you that shaders make a LOT of difference in maximum performance; although both of those numbers are low compared to a gtx 780 or an R9-290x. The X1 does have slightly higher CPU and GPU clock-speeds, but that won't really matter since it reserves about 10% of its resources for the kinect.

This seems like an obvious conclusion to me. The Xbox is near as makes no difference 200 cubic inches bigger, and has slightly less powerful hardware. Now I have mine in a well ventalated space and notice less heat than either of my ps3 consoles put out, and don't get me started on the heat my computer puts out. I don't understand why this has to be such a conflict. I have a PlayStation because it's what I wanted, and it works just fine, if you wanted an Xbox and that's fine. Why do so many have to look for some detail, no matter how irrelevant to make what they have superior.
As far as I know all consoles more than 2 generations back (ps2 era) were all working perfectly fine on release. Most are still in good working order today even something like the xbox1. I understand we all want lower prices and the market changed but this is becoming annoying. First it used to be excellent hardware with poor margins that would sell enough for an eventual break-even with profit from games (if I'm not mistaken). Now it's leaning a lot more to the cheap hardware to achieve a quicker break-even. Maybe they don't trust their sales rates. Can these companies really not strike a decent price/quality balance anymore?
Actually, consoles were never as good. The PS2 had time to work out its issues in Japan before it was released world wide and the Original Xbox was know for getting so hot due to poor ventilation that in burned holes what ever it was underneath it. Even the Super Nintendo had it issues with defective ram, faulty visual ports, and even defective power problems that prevented it from starting.Hell, even the cartridges internal battery could die out deleting all saves.
These problem come in to folds: Most of these are because mass quantity production always has a small percentage were their are defective units, such as the case with this generation.
The other half is that we are always building new technology. Since the start of making consoles these companies are pushing hardware so games can be both affordable and playable.

The PS4 one is not the surface temp. They are shooting through the rear vent so they are getting a direct sight line to one of the components, otherwise it wouldn't be so concentrated.
