“The PS4 Really Is Hotter Than The Xbox One!”

The console wars are heating up to record temperatures with the release of both PS4 and Xbox One – quite literally, as comparisons of the amount of heat both consoles generate reveals a clear victory for the PS4.
As a follow-up to the previous thermographic photography of the PS4, the two consoles have been compared in moderately scientific fashion:
The PS4 makes a clearly superior room heater:
Less speculatively, FLIR imagery of the PS4 running at distressingly high temperatures has been doing the rounds online:

No surprised.
PS4 - adapter/psu inside, smaller case.
X1 - adapter/psu outside, bigger case.
Now you all got to wonder if them that did this "flir" check ever try it on the previous system to compare~~ Now that's something I'd like to read and see now~~~~
AMD chip do run really hot in any machine, fact! And with the added heat from other component, that just doesn't help.
It's a shame of them both cutting corner. And more bad rap for AMD chip. I wonder what the result would been if they used Nvidia chip? Hmmm....
Also more GPU cores and a faster CPU clock.
the ps4 doesn't have more cores... both consoles are technically the same. But yes, the ps4 is more overclocked
I think he meant GPU "shaders." The PS4 DOES have more of them; The PS4 has 1152 shaders, while the X1 only has 768.Anyone who builds PCs will tell you that shaders make a LOT of difference in maximum performance; although both of those numbers are low compared to a gtx 780 or an R9-290x. The X1 does have slightly higher CPU and GPU clock-speeds, but that won't really matter since it reserves about 10% of its resources for the kinect.
check back on your facts fool, it does have more gpu cores moron
butthurt fan detected
butthurt sony fan
and your "no surprised" claim stems from what?
you call this pitiful information worthwhile?
you think that is money?
wut
he is the only one feeling "wut"?
Maybe more like tired of fanboy bullshit and don't feel like posting
People with brain will realize this after read the teardowns of both consoles. It's facts.
No, this is money:

Err, don't know why Sankaku decided it needed to append another copy of the url, but okay...
Kimi ga baka desu ka?
unlucky star as i would like to prefer to call it
Are you that stupid that you can't think of why this is?
Bigger case without the PSU in it = less heat generated inside and more cooling space
smaller case with the psu inside = less cooling space and more heat generated inside.
Anyone who has ever built a PC knows this.
Both consoles aren't worth getting right now. So very many issues.
A rev 1.0 of any complex product usually is going to be bug ridden junk esp if it's been rushed and had last minute design changes.
I believe the first PS4 was to use an enhanced Cell but IBM shifted focus to the more general purpose Power 7 processor.
So this is their plan B or even plan C design.
That's exceptionally unlikely, Cell is of different architecture, I suppose, Sony could emulate x86 on Cell but that sounds preposterous.
Ha! When IBM dropped Cell from their Bladeservers it was all over. They never produced a Cell faster than 2.8GHz, while the Cell processor contained within PS3 was clocked at 3.2GHz. Intel Core2 based Xenon processors kicked it's teeth in.
Incorrect the Cell is far faster the Core2 Xenon.
The version Cell version of the software OpenGl renderer in Mesa was on average four time faster then the version compiled for a quad core Skull trail Xenon.
Even the Jaguar which pisses on the Core2 is 50% slower at SIMD then Cell but the programmable stream processors in the GPU more then offset this.
Now Jaguar's X86 units are collectively about 3 to 5 times faster then the PPE in Cell.
This should help lazy ass game ports run better if they at least put forth the effort to make them multi threaded.
@11:45
I'm not talking about raw power, I'm talking SALES. Once the Core2 Xenon was released, it killed any foothold Cell powered Blades had. You stupid tech geek.
The highest recorded in these pictures is 140F, which is equal to 60C, a temperature that is perfectly acceptable in regular off-the-shelf CPUs and GPUs.
Most CPUs and GPUs have a general max of 80C before any extra degradation or noticeable performance loss occurs, so 60C isn't a problem for the PS4's APU.(it probably gets 5-10 degrees C hotter on the surface of the APU's heat-sink, but it's fine as long as it stays below 80C.
For comparison, most high-end reference-model GPUs these days hit 80C right out of the box when they're on a full load, and some even go up to 95C.(I'm looking at you, 290x) My aftermarket GTX 780(with a custom cooler from Asus) hits 70C max while on a full load and overclocked.
Absolutely seconding this! I don't know what this artificial rage is about. Okay the fact that one might be hotter than the other can't be denied. But the first article was totally meaningless with temperatures of around 60°C. These temperatures are absolutely normal and good for high specs like that. Of course it would be nice to have them operate energy efficiently at around 35°C-45°C but thats kinda unrealistic with these specs.
tl:dr seconding nothing's wrong with these temperatures.
This only case surface temperature. Insides are much hotter.
These results show a max of 140f, or 60C, the inside temp would need to be at least 20C higher than that hottest reading in the pictures to start going into dangerous territory. 20C translates to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and i doubt the inside is 68F hotter than what you see in any of these pictures.
The hottest point will be the surface of the APU's heatsink like i said, and even that shouldn't be 20C hotter.
20*(9/5) = 36
36+32
...........
.....+32
.....+32
.....+32
.....+32
=68 degrees F
;)
A 20C difference does not translate to a 68F difference, but rather a 36F difference. Remember that 0C equals about 32F. ;)
Keep in mind those temperature readings are being taken through a layer of plastic.
I'd be interested to see somebody take the casing off and do the FLIR tests again.
Wouldn't doing this mean the testers have to re-do all of their tests with PCs as well since they're cased when the tests are done?
Interesting show for a PC gamer.
*grabs popcorns*
Its good for heating up the pizza
Meanwhile at Nintendo?
All those money spend will be use to make a even better console!
and to show off how much wealth has been accumulated
ps4 has pornhub so my ps4 is obviously hotter
Well done.
What I see is that ps4 tops out at 143 degrees, that's not a problem at all that's still running very cool with what it has inside of it. My gaming computer runs around 180 degrees and about 150 on idle.
So
PLay yout PS4 in winter and XboxOne in Summer?
...or you can just part your consoles in front of the AC, in an open environment. Just like where I have my glass cabinet rack & consoles.
Fucking gay and fake, what about the horrible drives on XBOXONE.
aren't cpus and gpus made to run at like 80C?
Hell my oc'd C2D runs at about 70 under load, but thats because its running on 5 year old paste lol.
It's not made to heat the outside case of your comp to 80C
Sankaku Consoles.
The real issue here is some guy has both and a thermo camera >_>
are people still too stupid too hook up their consoles?
Why not using normal standard international metric system units?
Once it reaches 200F, you'll have something, but before then, it isn't even worth noting.
The gpu inside is likely way past 200F.
