MS Admits Xbox One Drive Fault

xbox-one-ifixit-teardown-bluray

The truly regrettable news that the Xbox One’s launch has been marred by faulty disc drives has been officially acknowledged by Microsoft, who helpfully assures the public that it only affects a “very small” number of buyers.

The console sold over a million units, and amazingly some proved faulty:

“The issue is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers.

We’re working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange program.”

Sony also admitted to its own PS4 problems, blaming them on “shipping damage” affecting “less than 1%” of consoles sold:

“This leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of PS4 units.

We also understand that some units were reportedly damaged during shipping.”

There has been suspicion that failure rates for both consoles are reasonable and simply being made much of by crowing YouTube videos – although how long these notoriously unreliable first iteration consoles last is likely to exercise some concern in future months.

Welcome to the future of gaming.

Where everyone is so pre-fucking-occupied with getting something out there before a competitor that nothing is checked for quality.

Oh wait, that's been going on for a while in the gaming community. Only now it's full on consoles and not just games.

    Lovely!

Both Microsoft and Sony knows many of their consoles are faulty and still they just keep silent and sells them.

So you want Sony and MS to call back all of millions of consoles back just to check which one is broken?

Everybody knows that any kind of new tech is bound to have a ton of bugs and issues. It's why I'm probably gonna stick w/ my current console for another year or two....and even when I do buy it I'll be sure to get the in store warranty, lol (just in case)

    Comment by Anonymous

Except Nintendo doesn't have "a ton of bugs and issues." You can make as many excuses and crap as you want, but Nintendo is the way to go.

If you meant the lacks of games, yes, 3DS and Wii U is miserable for its 6 months. But if you are talking about bugs and issues, those two barely have any problem.

Either you haven't been checking the games these consoles have gotten after their launches, or you only like FPS games, or there's something wrong with your eyes if you can't see any more than 5 or 6 games for these consoles.

You know, there's a big difference between whining about minor problems, and not buying something because it apparently is unable to do what it's designed to do. when a game console can't play games, it's essentially a severely overpriced paperweight.
(And just to guard myself against nitpickers: NO! I do not accept web browsers and extra TV functions as "useful functions" for a game console.)

I'm still not gonna get an Xbone regardless of whether or not they fix their current problems, as i have yet to see microsoft make an even halfway decent console. And i won't get ps4 until they make it colder.

You seem to forget the xbone is a tv cable box, not a gaming console. Hell even its first reveal only talked about tv feature this and that and like nothing on games. That kinda shows the fact its just a glorified cable box with a videocard.

This problem can be solved by the user by Unpluging the XBone, turning it upside-down and hitting it from above.

Yup, my older PS1 (first gen) only reliably plays games if I have it upside down, which is why I bought a 9001 model a few months back when I found one on ebay for 20$
